Rumor on the street is that Verizon is doing a hostile takeover of South Central Wireless in utah and northern Arizona. seems South Central has stopped selling phones, signing contracts etc... now all the SCC stores only have one person there to keep the lights on... anyone heard anything else?
that is the correct carrier. they are not saying anything to customers other than "check back later". All there stores are now closed but one. one ex employee told me they where the recipent of some kind of audit or action from the FCC or FTC and where being forced to sell off the wireless division to avoid fines... i have searched the FTC and FCC sites, nothing there about it. It is interesting that South Central creating a new Utah based corp and transferring the FCC licences for thier PCS spectrum to South Central Wireless LLC late 2010. (FCC call sign KNLG223 and WQBL704) has anyone heard of this kind of government action for a Co-Op phone company? thanks
You are right- it looks like South Central Cellular shut down it's cellular service May 31, 2011 and has referred its customers to Verizon Wireless. There was no hostile takeover by VZW, South Central simply shut down its cellular operations since it was not profitable for them. I think that South Central sold their towers to Verizon as well.
