My brother lost his phone and is in need of another. He's on Alltel in VA. I have an extra Verizon RAZR I could send him. Can he activate it on Alltel's network?

    Thanks.

Yes, but it will take just a little work. You can go into the programming mode and change it so the voice and basic sms will work. Or you could reflash the phone entirely so everything works. Also when activating either way he will want to do it over the phone and say it is an Alltel RAZR. They won't know the difference.

Thanks for the quick reply. He's not a techie, so flashing the phone is out of the question for him. But I could do it. Do I need access to the Alltel network to flash it? Or can I just download the flash software and do it?

You will need PST 7.2.3 or better, then download the monster flash file, i recommend here Verizon firmware downloads, Motorola, LG, and Samsung software, seems and DLL. if it is a V3M (with a memory card slot). If it's a v3c we'll have to find some other place for the monster file. You don't need to access the network just a miniusb cable, the motorola usb dirvers, pst software, and the flash file.

    No problem.

You may also want to, after it is flashed, go into the programming mode and put a bogus phone number and sid in there. You can put 244 if you'd like. That's Michigan's Alltel SID. You can put any number you want for the phone number. That way the OTA activation should work with Alltel and he won't have to program it manually...
