When I order my phone from verizonwireless.com, what software version should it have on it when I get it?
There isn't a specific software version that the phone should have. It really comes down to whatever they have in stock. You will get either v04, v05, or v06. Most likely you'll get v05. All of the software versions work well..I'm still on 04 and really don't have any complaints.
Me get with the program!? BRICE is the one who needs to get with the program. I might try going down there again this week...Maybe they pulled their thumbs out of their arses by now
Just a word of advice, you may want to call ahead. When I was getting my VX2000 yesterday they had just begun a remodel project at the store and 3 employees had called in sick according to the manager I was talking to. Needless to say people were scrambling around all over and they had to implement a sign in sheet for customers...I have seen that at Alltel and Cingular stores, but it was the first time I had seen it at VZW other than in the tech dept.
Awww man....By the time I'm able to get this thing updated they'll be on v08! I planned on calling ahead just to even make sure that they have successfully done a v06 upgrade. I just have this feeling they'll say "sure" then I'll drive all the way down there and they still won't know what they're doing...We'll see!
You may also want to see if they have any VX4400's in stock in case something goes terribly wrong during the flashing process. I was in the store once when someone's phone got messed up and they had no more in stock to give him as a replecement...I don't know what phone he had though...they sent him over to the Kathy Run store to get a replacement.
I'm still on v.04 as well, and I have no desire to update. I haven't had any problems at all, I get good reception, ringer volume is nice and loud, and phone functions as it should. Why would I want to take a chance of screwing that up? I've read all the horror stories on here about the things can go wrong when you update, so I'm not going to. If it aint broke, don't fix it!
I have a major echo sometimes when talking on my phone, could that be a software issue or what? Thanks
Probably 99% of all echoes are network related and have nothing to do with the phone itself. Still, some people (OohOohMeNext comes to mind) have reported echoes with the 4400 when they never had echoes prior to getting the phone. echoes...now that's a good song.
The only time I ever notice an echo, is when I have the ear piece volume set too high. The mic picks up the sound coming from the ear piece and loops it. If I turn it down, it goes away.
Im also still on version 4. I have no problems with my phone and I don't plan on updating it unless a new version comes out that will fix the vib + ring issue and the alerts. I appreciate the LOUD ringers and the LOUD earpiece since I find myself in bars/clubs a lot. Also I heard version 5+ decreases the amount of memory and since I download games via bitpim into my phone, I need all the memory I can get.
Shimo, Just FYI...when I upgraded to version 05 I lost no memory (stayed right at a max avail of 1.52) and while ringers do get quieter, the earpiece volume does not. The lowest earpiece vol;ume setting is quieter, but the highest is the same. The update did the opposite to the downloaded ringers ONLY...it made the previous lowest setting the highest setting, so the downloaded ringers are much quieter. Earpiece volume is only affected on the low end (gets quieter on lowest setting, but highest remains the same), downloaded ringer volume on the high end (not as loud anymore).
This is my first time on this fourum. So dont beat me up to bad. I know this my sound stupid but, The whole reason I am looking to return my vx10 and pick up a 4400 is, I need a LOUD RINGER. If the phone i pick up is at a newer version of firmware (ie 5). Can it be flashed backwards to version 4? oz
Theoretically yes, it can be flashed to a previous software version. Whether the Verizon tech people will do it for you and whether or not they even have version 04 is another thing. For example, I upgraded from 04 to 05. Soon version 06 was released. Malial tried to go to the same store I went to and they had only version 06 but they somehow didn't know how to load it. He asked for version 05 and was told it had been deleted from the computer. So it may be hard to find version 04 now...I don't know.
