Just weeks away for the details to be officially released.
As I have been the last few years, I'm on the fence, but probably will get it.

Intriguing that it is actually projected to be smaller than the 7 plus, but with a larger screen.

Who else is considering the upgrade?

"The iPhone 8, if the measurement predictions are accurate, is wider, thicker, and taller than the iPhone 7, but not as large as the iPhone 7 Plus."

Assuming they actually release it more or less on time…

There have been rumors of 8 not being released at the same time as 7s/+

But you said 'more or less', so I hope it fits inside the kind of time frame, and you will then enjoy your new iPhone 8.

Well, my wife will be the one enjoying the iPhone 8 ;) I just don't know how long she'll be able to wait for it once she learns of the 7s+ release :)

Just keep the Navy away from the ships bringing the phones stateside and they'll be on time.

I have two responses, not sure which is better.

To those guys, maybe on the cargo ship, since the Navy ship was throne rammed.

    Navigational:

    1. Maybe there is 'an App for that' ?

    Or

    2. Prevent the cargo crew from crow barring open a crate of iPhone 8's...otherwise their attention will be focused on playing with the new iPhone and not looking where they are going

My 7 plus is only 6 months old and I really like the size and the shape, so for sure not getting the iPhone 8 immediately. I also loved walking into our Apple Store in February and getting the phone immediately.

Right now I am thinking if I do get it, it will after the first of the year. Then again I may skip this year. :D

Who knows I may even order one for launch day if the bank approves my loan. :p. It was kind of fun tracking the shipment containing my phone all the way from China, I will have to admit.

Never been into getting a new iPhone until after the initial hype has died down, so it will be spring 2018 at the earliest, for me.

So now that we know everything about the new products, who is getting what?

I was pretty excited about the LTE Watch, thinking I could leave my phone behind on vacation and other specific places, then I realized I won't have any means to take pictures DUH!!!

My wife and I will both be ordering new Series 3 Watches with Cellular to replace our original "Series 0" Watches. Neither of us have decided on the case material/color/band yet, but I'll be sticking with the 42mm and she'll be staying with the 38mm.

We're also both going to order iPhone Xs to replace our iPhone 7 Pluses. Probably 64's since we're both using less than that on our 128 7's. Color doesn't seem to matter as I've resigned myself to always using a case after my ill fated attempt not to with the Jet Black. Since the front is the same, who cares what color the back is.

I'm most excited about the watch with cellular. That'll be great for when I'm out mountain biking, riding dirt bikes, and running (all of those things I wish I were doing more often). My wife likes that she'll be able to use it as an iPhone Nano to slip into a clutch when we go out. I'm amazed that they were able to fit all of that tech into the already tiny form factor all the while keeping the battery life the same and adding only $30 to the cost.

My wife is particularly excited for the silly animoji, and she likes the camera and screen improvements. I'm mostly interested in experiencing their new state of UI. I'm unsure about the new narrower size and would have preferred a Plus version of it, but it'll be fine. That's rumored for next year.

I will be getting the Watch to replace my 2+ year old Series 1. I like the GPS, cellular and faster processor.

So knowing my tastes and posts, you might be surprised that my first reaction to the IPhone X is a big Meh.

So it's between the 8 plus and X.

My first thoughts on the X, which may change.

    1. I like the larger screen. I don't like the black notch in the image from the front camera, earpiece, etc. very silly from a design viewpoint. Smaller physical size is good though.

    2. Facial recognition. Okay, cute. But I enjoyed discretion in looking at my phone, in a business meeting, just using my fingerprint. Like looking causally at a wrist watch. Having to hold up my iPhone to my face....meh.

    3. Not really going back to all glass. But no choice there, even in the 8.

    4. Wireless charging. Questions. Will this work through all cases? Thick ones? I use a case with credit cards on the back of the case. I'm sure that's not good for the cards.

    5. Why only 64 or 256? Seems 64 is small and 256 is a high price point.

Just some first thoughts. Like I said meh...I like the camera stuff and so on. Just not sure the X is worth it for early adoption.

Did anyone else catch how the facial recognition didn't work the first time during the live event? Whoops.

Supposedly with the attention tracking if you have the phone sitting on a table, in a mount, etc. it will show the lock screen when you glance at it. Yet to be seen how well this works.

It's interesting that you're also "meh" about the X. That was exactly how I characterized my reaction, yet it's easily as much of a progression as most gens have been. I take that as a testament to how good the phones have gotten in general now.

At the moment my wife steadfastly refuses to think about upgrading her iPhone 6+, but I think I'll talk her into 8+ (which I'm not sure fully deserves a version bump, but I guess wireless charging was the differentiation between other incremental improvements and the 7s+ designation. Whatever). My reaction to iPhone X (admittedly based on some pre-release rumors) is similar to viewfly's. Yes, I did catch the "OK, let's switch to the backup and get right in" FaceID hiccup, but if the rumors are to be believed the dropping of TouchID was a forced measure and that Apple did plan to have a "through the glass" implementation, they just couldn't perfect it in time. So I expect that to make a return next year.

Also, I noticed that FaceID unlocking had a pronounced lag compared to how TouchID works (instantly). And of course @viewfly raises a good point about being inconspicuous with TouchID unlocking.

Granted, I don't use the iPhone frequently enough to perfect them, but the "half-way swipe" gesture is a hit and miss for me. Not that I love double-tap on the home button and the bottom swipe helps to some degree, but accessing the task manager seems more awkward on the X.

Yes, the X is definitely a more premium offering, but is it $300 more premium? Undecided.

The watch was interesting for sure and I think I could've talked my wife into upgrading to it but I'm sure she'll be put off by the $10/mo price tag. Altimeter would certainly be helpful in avoiding total confusion that the watch suffered last month when we were on a cruise and my wife went for a run on deck 12. The normally reliable activity detection has credited her with an open water swim which I'm sure altimeter would have helped to recognize properly :)

As for 64/256 — I'm guessing after years of criticism that the iPhone wouldn't budge on storage offerings year after year they decided to go with the flow and double last year's capacities while tacking on another $50 to the price.

I have an upgrade available (connected to my 6 Plus), so I could get an 8 Plus, or an X (if I sell a limb or two, three, four). As nice as the X looks (even with its minor limitations), can't say the price justifies getting one (this year). I have a feeling Apple will incorporate the bezel-less design next year on a broader scale (oh how I hope). The X is a little small for me and I would love to see a larger (8 plus or bigger) size version of it. As this year is the prototype for this type of phone, maybe it's worth waiting out.

Still, the X is beautiful and I won't rule it out. Either way, I'm going to wait a while (if not until late next year) to get a new device, to see how these phones pan out.

What I'll likely spring for is the new watch. I have a Series 1 model and the new LTE version sounds intriguing and will be available through Verizon. Monthly payments work for me.

I'm actually more excited for iOS 11. Looking forward to the visual improvements they've added. Still, I'm locked to Apple for good. So the anticipation of getting something new is always there. Yep, I drank the Apple Kool-Aid. :geek:

Still wonder how this will affect cases. Using the wireless charging. I suppose one can still charge through the port.

When did they discontinue the 256GB version of 7?

I think a case of 1-1.5mm thickness won't interfere with Qi charging, but one of those really thick Otters might. Or if it has steel mesh inside :)

Heh, and the official explanation of the FaceID hiccup on stage is yet another point against it. Apparently if you let too many people who are not your twin ogle your shiny new iPhone X it'll lock up on you :)

Now that's scary. My "million" cousins in India wait to see what latest gadget I have. That phone is going to get locked up in no time.

I think it just means you have to use the passcode instead. Just like the Touch ID. Unless of course to set the settings to erase after 10 failures. And that probably just 10 passcode failures.

Idk. I feel this launch to my might be a flop for Apple. The Watch will be fine.

But the confusion about the meh 8 and the too pricy X, plus the jump between 64 or 256 price point. Plus the glass back again.

People might just be on the fence until they see them.

Just a projection of my feeling onto the world, I guess.
