Recently I had a bit of trouble with my Essential PH-1. I was driving on the DC Beltway, looked down, and it wasn't charging (charging light wasn't lit). I figured I was 10 mins from my destination, so I'd figure out what was going on when I got there. When I stopped, I picked up the phone, but it was so hot, I dropped it. I then yanked the charger cord out, and smoke and melted plastic came out the port. It took 2 hours before the phone cooled down enough to turn back on. (I almost thought it would never come on again). Battery had 80% charge, so I figured I'd have to do something before the battery died, as I suspected it would never charge again. I couldn't get it to charge... so off to the AT&T store I went. Pixel 4a 5G please... While setting up my new phone, the guy was playing with the PH-1, and got it to charge, but it was very picky about how the charger cord was positioned. I figured I better buy a new phone now before it totally died. I've had the new phone now for a couple weeks, and I like it a lot, the Pixel is probably the best option for those that liked the PH-1. I did add a wireless charging pad to the back of the phone, and hollowed out the inner portion of an Otterbox to accommodate it. Hopefully no more charging port problems since I'm not constantly plugging it in anymore.
