Fitbit Alta HR to be exact!

Anticipating that some of you, @viewfly comes to mind ;) may be asking why not an Apple Watch, here are my reasons:

    1. I wanted something simple, steps, miles, heart rate etc, together with notifications for messages, calls, and calendar. This does just that very well and no more.

    2. The minimalist look, I have narrow wrists, and the Apple Watch and some Fitbit models were too much. The Alta is more watch like as opposed to a sophisticated wearable.

I haven't worn a watch since I graduated so even this felt weird to me initially, now I really like it. It is exactly what I hoped it would be.

Now, I know I am late to this game, so please fellow forumite friends post your experience irrespective of which wearable you have and/or prefer.

I'm not familiar with the device - can you post a picture?

    Certainly Joe!

This is the exact one that I have. I do have plans to write a few more details, soon :D

My wife has one due to all the other gals at work getting one. Now she's in a group at work where she can see what others are doing for steps. distance, and activity time. Her only complaint is updating to her phone is slow.

We just got back from France and we were walking 5 to 7 miles a day, so she was leading the group for a couple of weeks. :)

@palandri, thanks for your reply and I am glad to hear she likes it other than the upload speed. The upload speed is fine with my phone, no complains on it here.

I have an ironic situation, my older dog Rusty, does not have the stamina to walk the the distance that Coco the younger one does, so now I take them out separately which automatically gives me 50% more steps than before.

Which model does she have and for how long?

    Just curious, thanks :)

Simple, weeks great. Syncs over BT to your phone or computer to upload your data. Can't complain to much.

I have a Fitbit Blaze which I got as a gift from work. Actually, I was given a choice between that and Beats Headphones, so it was a no-brainer :)

The battery of the Blaze is rated at 5 days, and I have set up reminders to charge it twice a week, so even if I forget to do it (a frequent occasion) I usually still have the chance to do so before it drains fully. Having said that, it is my biggest problem with the wearable — charging so frequently is very annoying.

I don't recall having any problems with the updates, but I also use the app to keep track of my water consumption, so I guess the amount of time it takes me to record another water bottle is enough for it to sync :)

Overall I'm fairly happy with it, it does have some erroneous tracking (an occasional bumpy ride in stop-and-go traffic will count as steps), but there's very little of it in my day-to-day life so I don't mind. And the cheesy sleep pattern chart is fun to look at :D

I've not set up any notifications since I didn't see any reason to do so other than probably drain the battery a little faster, so no idea how well that works.

She has the Fitbit Charge 2. She got it last December. Her goal is 8,000 steps a day.

    Absolutely agreed.

@dmapr, I have been trying to figure out the proper adjective for the sleep and "cheesy" fits it perfectly.

I have all kinds of notifications turned on and my battery lasts about 5 days, it is supposed to be 7 but I am figuring it will get better as I quit playing with it. I do have all day sync turned off.

Notifications about messages, calls, and calendar are my favorite as is all the simulated fireworks when I achieve a goal.

@palandri, the Charge 2 was my first choice and I looked at it very seriously, mainly because of the assisted GPS. At the end the form factor of the Alta won. :)

I have the all day sync turned on, and I like the reminders to get off my butt and walk a little, but find the phone notifications to be sufficient.

I have the reminder to move turned on as well.

The message, calls etc notifications are helpful to me so I know whether to stop what I am doing and reach for my phone or just ignore it for the time being.

I can see how it would be important for busy people. I'm never in a situation where the nature of the notification dictates whether I look at the phone or ignore it.

    Ha!

@JFB, did you want to know anything in particular about Fitbits or was the picture enough?

Enjoy your Fitbit, Charlyee. It's great to understand your activity cycles and notifications can be useful.

I got one as a gift a few years back, before my Apple Watch. At that time, there were two issues with the hardware and software. False steps where occurring just from turning wrists on the car steering wheel. Secondly all four of family members Fitbits broke within a year. The problem was in the flex electronic circuitry. After mine broke I got my Apple Watch.

I have to assume that all that has been fixed by this time.

But wearing a Fitbit, that's a big change for you, Charlyee!

I hope you enjoy it and find it useful too.

@viewfly, yes it's a big change for me. I figured the novelty would wear of quickly and I can just return it. So 23 days later, I am still wearing it and more importantly enjoying it.

    Here is my 2 cents.
It does everything it is supposed to, I do wish it had assisted GPS but that's not a deal killer.

The battery lasts 6-7 days and I like that. I do have a problem when charging. The battery symbol on the Fitbit itself never turns solid, which would signify full charge. If I disconnect it then it does show full charge. I did think about trying another one but decided against it. The app correctly shows the charge status.

@dmapr, I am running 26.60.26, where can I find out if that is the latest or not?

When I first plugged it in, it prompted me to update but nothing since then.

Then is the latest. The only place I know is their support forums, where you might also be able to find out if other people have the same problem.

Thanks, their "solution" is to reset. I had already tried that a couple of times.

I think I will just let the battery run down until it shuts off and then charge, might help.

I am impressed with how well it has survived through the move. I don't recall ever buying a new device and subjecting it through this much abuse.

It's time to throw the box away.
