Smelly Samsung Phones Samsung has submitted a patent application for a mobile phone which would include a "perfume container" which can then spray the perfume out, either when a button is pressed on the handset, or when the phone receives a phone call. Presumably if a handset came with several containers you could have a nice smell for friends and family and a not so pleasant odour for calls from your boss ? The purpose of the patent is not actually new, but Samsung are claiming to have overcome several problems inherent in previous applications which gives them a lot more control over the quantity of perfume that is emitted each time. The pressure unit may also include a heater to heat the perfume stored in the perfume chamber, a piezoelectric element unit to pressurize perfume stored in the perfume chamber and/or an ultrasonic exciting unit to excite perfume stored in the perfume chamber. The patent number is US 2006/0062408 A1
Can you imagine being stuck in line at the grocery store behind a woman who's cell phone keeps emitting this sticky sweet awful artificial rose scent? I think I'd blow some serious chunks there. -Jay
I wonder how many "smell" options we'll have. Will everyone have the same four or five to pick from? Or can I download "freshly cut grass," or "Mom's apple pie"? Seriously, though, I agree. UNnecessary.
I imagine you'd only have a few choices, and they'd all smell as wonderful as the cheap aerosol air fresheners we love so much... -Jay
With my luck the idiot in front of me at the grocery store will have this and have a perfume I'm allergic to in the phone.
You know, we had a problem with exploding batteries a while back... now they're trying to put a heater on a cell phone? Yeah, that's a good idea. You'd be dead but at least you'd smell good.
