This is so unbelievable I can't believe it happened. For those old enough, do you remember the days of long distance company slamming? Long distance company XYZ would call you up and ask if you wanted to change to XYZ as your long distance phone company, and you would say no, but they would switch you to XYZ even if you said no.

I had DirecTV about 6 or 7 years ago for 2 years. I cancelled after fulfilling my 2 years contract, due too their DVR being extremely laggy, getting auto charged for NFL football and their customer service being extremely rude.

Due to AT&T buying DirecTV and reading a couple of articles about package deals with AT&T wireless. I called the DirecTV number listed on the AT&T website at 5pm and asked about package deals. I gave DirecTV my name and phone number. The customer service rep said I can help you with your order and I said I am not ordering, I just want to check on pricing and he said you can do than online. I said OK, and I hung up.

Tonight at 9PM I got a DirecTV order confirmation. I never ordered DirecTV. I called DirecTV to cancel the order and their rep was extremely rude when I told him I didn't order DirecTV. He said he cancelled it. I asked if I was going to get an email confirmation on the order being cancelled and he said i would. I still have not received an email confirmation, so I am expecting a DirecTV installer to stop by now.

Well, if you didn't order it then what do you care if an installer stops by? That will be their own problem.

I understand what you're saying, but if they charge me for it on my AT&T account, I will be wasting time getting it corrected.

Ah, didn't realize they could do that. Still, they should not be able to charge if they don't install, right?

I would hope so, but I don't know for sure at this point.

I never received an email confirming the cancellation, so I called them again this morning. The customer service rep told me that they were just locking in prices for me. I kept repeating that I want the order cancelled since I never ordered it and an email confirmation that it was cancelled. He said that he noted on my account that I wanted to cancel and would send me an email on the cancellation. Once again I never received an email confirmation.

Something that really bothers me on the order is this statement:
"...If you decide to cancel your service early, you will be responsible for a fee of $20/mo for the remainder of your contract (up to $480)....".

Then to find a recent complaint like this:
    http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/att-direct-tv-direct-tv-bundle-c777325.html

I think I need to send out a bunch of letters today for my own protection for when the installer knocks on my door and I get a $480 cancellation bill.

Yikes! Well following that person's lead, if the installer shows up you can act surprised and ask them to show you a signed contract :)

Something else I started doing was contacting ATTCares on Twitter and telling them I needed to talk with someone at AT&T about a complaint with DirecTV and they kept giving me the DirecTV phone number. I kept at it telling them I don't want the DirecTV phone number, I want an AT&T phone number for a complaint about DirecTV.

It looks like I finally got what I wanted:
