Wireless carriers are just matching what is norm in the communications industry, most wireline and cable tv companies are not going to give you a 24x7 call center.

Of course, with your wireless phone, technical issues should be able to be resolved 24x7, but billing and support issues should wait for business hours, after all do you really want some sleepy eyed rep fixing your account at 2 in the morning.

When I had Sprint PCS their customer service was terrible. You had to wait like 15 min to talk to a rep and then they would transfer all around to different departments. sometime i would be on there for two hours

Customer service hasn't been 24 hours for a long time. There should be someone at tech support though, unless they changed that too.

So I guess Cingular and Nextel have been the leaders in the industry for not offering 24/7 Customer Service. Verizon and Sprint apparently are following this trend. With the Cingular buyout of AWS, this luxury might disappear for AWS customers as well (although I heard otherwise). Lastly, we have T-Mobile which has always been a late-comer in most aspects. ;) So they may be the last to remove 24/7 CS, if they ever do it.

And who wants to bet that when everyone stops offering it something will REALKY go wrong with a large corporate account when they are closed and cost some company HUGE amounts of money.

If something goes really wrong with a large corporate account, they will call Technical Support, which is always available 24/7. Changing a rate plan, adding a new line, or correcting billing errors (which are customer service duties), is not something terribly wrong that cannot wait until the next business day.

Customer Serice should be closed on a Sunday, but not Tech Support. They should have Tech Supp available 24/7. They may have a different phone number.

Again, bobo.. the key word is SHOULD... I've verified this myself, Sprint tech support is closed @ 2am on weekdays, 8pm on weekends... I agree that they should keep it open 24 hrs, but the fact is that they don't. :( If my phone craps out @ 3am, I'm screwed til 7 or 8am the next morning. When I had Cingular, at least they had an after-hours emergency support line that could handle some stuff if it came up at ungodly hours of the morning.

What kind of problems do you guys have with your phone/accounts at 3AM that honestly couldn't wait until 7am? I've never had an issue that was really THAT urgent. If your phone craps out tech support won't make one materialize out of thin air and if it's a voicemail problem to wait a couple of hours until morning to have it resolved isn't that big of a deal.

If your wireless phone is that important to you or your business you should have alternative means for people to contact you. What happens when the issue is outside your phone? What if it's a general network outage? You being able to call tech support from a landline and report it won't get it fixed any sooner. If it's that urgent of an issue it will be dispatched appropriately by the NOC of the company.

edit: I just noticed this post is from 2004... I don't know why it came up as a current post???

Well if you have a problem on Saturday, sprint closes at 9pm, and dosent re-open until 10am sunday. Sometimes, the best time for someone to call techs support is late at night.

Oh I agree on convenience for a lot of people but convenience versus urgency are two different issues.

When I had sprint, I used to call CS between 11PM and 1AM because I never could get thru during the day... now that I'm with VZ, I cant call so late because CS is open from 7A till 11p daily (but at least I can get thru whenever I call;))LOL
