My old V300 for T-Mobile to go screen croaked, so it's useless. I bought another used one off EBAY but the handset speaker doesn't work, a common problem on this model. I'm trying to find a Moto phone model that the SIM card will fit in, especially one without a camera because my work now bans camera phones. Anybody know or know somebody who would know? I've been Googling it for hours and not finding anything useful. I'm looking for old phones I can get for cheap. I get laid off constantly now and a cheap used phone is all I can afford. I use it so little as a phone any phone might do. TIA
Any unlocked, or TMO branded phone will work. The handset speaker not working is an easy fix though. The same thing happened on my 2 Motorola V551's. It is just a pressure connection that holds a tab from a flexible circuit board against the speaker. I opened the top of the flip (4 mini torx screws) and snapped it off. You will then see a metal bracket that snaps over the LCD assembly and half of the speaker. Loosen it up and I placed a small piece of electric tape on the back of the tab from the flexible circuit board. This once again restored the proper tension to hold the tab against the speaker and make proper connection. You can get a mini torx driver set for under $10 delivered from Ebay and you probably already have something to shim it with. I used electric tape, but I know of others that tore a small corner off a business card. When buying a mini torx driver set the 2 most important sizes to have when taking cell phones apart is the T5 and T6. -Jay
Good news and bad news. Good news is I had a No. 6 torx wrench from when I ordered a new antenna and face plates and the tape on the speaker connection worked some. Bad news is that the flip open switch is screwed up now and the thing flashes on and off, or just doesn't light up at all. Plus when you hit the buttons, especially the green phone button the screen shuts off and it disconnects. Though when you open the phone the screen strobing off and on is kind of psychedelic but not very useful phone-wise. Looks like the switch that tells the phone it is open or closed is messed up. I experimented on my old phone first opening it (It had swam in a dog bowl, can't hurt it any more) but guess prying off the silver cover inside I messed something up. Oh the speaker quit again too.
Re: Good news and bad news. The switch that senses if the flip is open or closed is in the base of the phone, above the keypad, not in the top. That should have been uneffected. -Jay
sounds like a perfect phone for you would be a V195, or an older V188 those are the moto models that I would look at, the V180 was ok, but has been known to have sw issue with dropping calls after left on for more than 72 hours. the V195 at least has BT but all of these models do not have a camera
