Hi there. I got a samsung E105 and the sim card works just fine in it. I also have a voicestream nokia 8290 and I got a message "sim card not accepted". Any idea what could be an issue? tmobile customer reps tell me it's an issue with the phone itself. Is it?

    Thanks.

The Nokia 8290 is locked to T-Mobile (formerly VoiceStream), and will work only with a T-Mobile (or one of their ancestors like Omnipoint) SIM. Ask a friend with T-Mobile service, or someone at a T-Mobile store (don't mention ATT) to try the 8290 with their SIM.

Should the 8290 is locked to T-Mobile, it would have to be unlocked to be used with an ATT SIM (or any other). A T-Mobile customer of more than ninety days standing could request the unlock code. Or a third party could do it.

Well, actually tmobile card doesn't work in this nokia 8290 voicestream phone. It works in other nokia 8290 voicestream phones, but just not this one. I tried Cingular & AT&T SIM cards in it (thinking it could be other carier's phone with voicestream faceplate) but none got accepted.
