I just bought a Razr V3M, which I like well enough in certain ways -- it's slimness (LOVE that aspect), it's sturdy feeling, its sleek design, working well with bluetooth, call quality, it's big keypad, etc. -- but am tempted to trade it in for a Samsung A870. I care nothing about music or video or camera or ringtones or text messaging or any of that jazz. I just want to use the phone feature (and sometimes the alarm clock) and with a bluetooth headset.

The reason I would make the trade is for the following reasons:

    1. A vibrate then ring option -- I THINK the Samsung has this feature. Right?

    2. A stronger vibrate. The Razr's isn't that great.

    3. Hopefully better battery life than the Razr.

    4. Hopefully larger font size so I can more easily see things like message indicators and phone book entries and the time and date, etc.

    5. Tri-mode. (Not crucial, but hey, it seems better to have it just in case then not to have it.)

Anyone have any opinions or experiences with the strengths and weaknesses of these two phones and which one is better? What am I taking for granted with the Razr that I'm going to miss if I make the switch? What unpleasant surprise might I find with the Samsung? And so on.

    I'm all ears, folks.

I just recently switched from the RAZR V3m to the Samsung A870 last week. My reason for doing so was b/c the A870 tri-band and my trips to Kentucky.

    Here's my observations:

RAZR has longer battery life and MUCH better call quality, but no analog capability. I was in an analog situation over the weekend and my girlfriend has the RAZR and she had no signal, while I was on analog roam. Very reassuring.

The downside to the RAZR is that the software is REALLY slow. I have had many software issues with the RAZR and hopefully they will be fixed with the next software update that just came out.

The A870 seems cheaply made and just doesn't have the quality of the RAZR. Unless you are worried about analog, stick w/ the RAZR.
