IIRC, iPhones and Android 4.0 phones have it built in. All other Android phones have to be rooted first

Joe, it is screen capture from the Speedtest app. As Quint said iPhones and ICS have the screen capture built in.

There is one screencapture app that can be used without rooting and as soon as the user can be flagged down we will let you know.

    Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; MB860 Build/4.5.91) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1

    Re: Share Your Connection Speed

This is the only non root screen capture app that I know of that gets good reviews, but it's a bit pricey:

    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.edwardkim.android.screenshotitfullnoroot&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5lZHdhcmRraW0uYW5kcm9pZC5zY3JlZW5zaG90aXRmdWxsbm9yb290Il0.

I have the version that requires root, which I like a lot. :)

Also you can use this method:

I wonder why speedtest doesn't give a share-able link like the regular version. :headscrat

It does in a way, but it's a bit hidden. You have to click the envelope and choose a sharing method (email or SMS, for instance), then the text will have a link to the PNG file. You can then copy & paste it.

That's good. Around here I rarely see T-Mo lock on to 3G indoors.

I think I have the fastest speeds over the cellular network... Found 2 bars of LTE today. I have no idea why it thinks I'm in New York though...

    Re: Share Your Connection Speed

    Jay,

If I'm not mistaken, the speedtest looks at the IP of your device (which will be actually the NAT IP of your gateway) and finds the closest server to that. So what it says is that your gateway is within 50 miles of their NY server.

Back when I was on mMode (several years after the Blue population has really dwindled) it was not uncommon for my gateway to be somewhere in Texas, even though I am in California.

    Re: Share Your Connection Speed

When I'm on 3G or the souped up 3G they're calling "4G" it names my server as Washington, DC, which I'm about 30 or 40 miles away. When on LTE, my server is listed as Brooklyn, NY. LTE must be coming to my tower soon. I was at a friend's house a couple miles away last night for a Superbowl party, and while sitting on their couch I noticed I was bouncing between 4 bars "4G" and 1 bar LTE. I went out to the deck to get 2 bars LTE and ran the test. Hopefully LTE will hurry up. The coverage maps show my whole area solidly as LTE, however I rarely find it, and when I do its only 1 or 2 bars. It is amazingly fast with just one bar though. I'd like to see how fast it is with full service.
