I wanted to see if running the incoming cable through cable surge suppressor on my new UPS would affect the speed. Before: After: I think the results are inconclusive. I ran a few more tests and the speeds were all over the place. :dunno:
Nice CenturyLink speeds, Gamer... I keep checking the CenturyLink site and I still only qualify for 1.5 I noticed they are improving the city as a whole, though...
Thanks Quint101. We have had it since last summer. When they came out to hook it up, the technicians had to install a brand new line in the room where the modem is, install a new interface (that is what they called it) on the side of the house, and put new housing on the box outside since they told us the new equipment is too big for the old box housing. Also, they gave us a new router/modem combination, although since the combo only has 802.11g, they turned off the router portion, and I used my DLINK 802.11n gaming router instead. We used to have Comcast like you and others have, but they oversold the area down here (they are the only cable company in the area), and had too many people sharing the lines down here (and still do from what our neighbor has told us). So during the peak hours of the day, the Comcast speeds would get extremely slow. We switched to Embarq (now CenturyLink) about 6 years ago, and our speeds are always consistent.
I actually recently found out that century link now offers 25mbps speeds in my area. Sweet! So much better then the 1.5 I currently have, since I wasn't sure about upgrading to 3 Mbps.
On vacation in Pennsylvania using the Wi-Fi in my hotel room (the fastest hotel Wi-Fi that I have ever seen):

Two tests just taken on Wi-Fi at my house. one of them was a little lower than earlier today, but I love the low ping.
A new server alot closer to me made it on speedtest.net (Shelby NC), but it's still somewhat slower than the Asheville NC server. Here's the results at my house (non-WiFi) Here's the Wi-Fi results at my house
Our cable company just increased our upload speed from 2 Mbps to 2.5Mbps. But now for some reason the IP address here belongs to a city on the other side of SC (Beaufort). I'm actually about 60 miles from the Asheville NC test site.... Here's Wi-Fi at my house... Here's with wired cable connection at my house:
