Today was the first time I've seen the cell service being offered onboard. Previously only seen Wi-Fi. Got these two messages after turning the phone on upon reaching the cruising altitude (there was a sign indicating GSM service was available). Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I was assuming it was possible with satellite interfaces to mobile networks but I couldn't find anything on it. I did read something about some sort of micro cells being placed on some planes, but nothing concrete. The most recent "news" (Google tab) I could find dated back to 2014 and they were articles on why mobile phones cannot be used on flights. Here are two possible links to providers: http://www.sitaonair.aero/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AeroMobile
Yeah, I should've looked at the operator, perhaps AT&T wouldn't have masked it out as it usually does.
That wiki link that Kevin posted says: "February 2014 Lufthansa rolls out mobile phone services with AeroMobile Selected A330s"
