My blood counts (in this case blood clotting platelets) continue to head south. My oncologist has already warned me about the dangers of using a regular blade (I use a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo), and recommended I get an electric shaver. Right now, it seems to be a toss up between the Panasonic ES8103S Arc3 and the Norelco 1150x. They both seem a bit pricey to me. For those of you who use electric shavers, which make/model would you recommend? The 1st review on the Panasonic seems to be a very good review and I'm leaning toward it. (I guess, besides the cost, I still have a year's worth of Gillette blades that will end up being a waste. Back in 2011, Costco had a fantastic deal I couldn't pass up -- a large package of blades at a phenomenal savings. I am still using that package! However, due to both skin cancer and leukemia and just the general beginning failure of the immune system, I am breaking out with sores on my face and every time I shave, I bleed from breaking open those sores.)
My significant other, has been using Norelco and I have never heard any complaints. He said he likes it. I tried to find the model number but there doesn't seem to be any on the shaver. This is what it looks like. PS: No personal experience Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I remember an article years ago where someone found a correlation between electric shavers and throat cancer. I haven't heard anything else since, but I remember the article. You may want to google that.
@palandri: Thanks, palandri. At this point in my life, it is kind of moot point. The oncologist expects I will probably die within a year and the chances of catching throat cancer from that in such a short period of time are pretty remote. (This may be the article you are thinking of and it's validity is challenged.) In considering the chances of throat cancer to the real and imminent danger of bleeding from shaving, it seems the latter is the greater of the two evils.
I've been using an older model of that Panasonic for years. I have no complaints. It charges very fast and the charge lasts a long time.
I've been using Braun brands for 40 years. Currently I'm using the Braun Series 7 models. They come with a cleaning and charging station that make life much easier. Each days it feels like a new razor and clean. I don't have to take it apart and clean it myself. If the worry is about infection, it might be worth considering. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
@JFB: Thank you so much. That is definitely what I'm leaning towards. @viewfly: I love Braun products, unfortunately the shaver is a bit out of my price range ($180 to $290 !!!). I balked when I found out that lower-cost shavers are around $50 - $60. (Shows you I haven't shopped in a while, LOL)
I've used various Norelco and Braun electric shavers for more than 25 years. I like both but prefer the Norelco models. They seem a little easier on my skin--that might be a better choice for you.
Update: For the last two days, my left leg has been losing sensation (when I touch it, my leg doesn't sense it is being touched). My foot also began tingling and the whole leg felt rock-hard. Spent 10 hours in ER yesterday (from 2pm until 12:30am today). I have multiple clots in my left leg. Due to leukemia, the doctors were at odds on how to treat me without cause other issues. They cautiously decided on two different blood thinners (Warfarin -- a pill, and Lovenox -- a 2x daily injection in stomach.). This will be closely monitored by a agency that will call me every day to tell me what dosage I need for that day. (Yes, this means daily blood tests.) Since my blood count is already dangerously low, the changes of bleeding have now compounded exponentially. So, I finally decided to order the Panasonic shaver. (I've already I'm bleeding more easily just with the first two injections.)
Thanks all. My whole body is beginning to look like a war zone. Every needle poke starts out with a small bruise but within a couple days it is 3 to 4 times more spread out. The facial cancer is leaving noticeable red blotches all over in spite of the topical Rx cream. I'm getting embarrassed about being seen in public.
