I just got a replacement for my V551 from Cingular. I returned my other one because it had a software bug in it.

Now I see this icon that looks like an "E" where the GPRS icon would be. I have never seen this one before. Anyone recognize it?

That means EDGE, the next evolution from GPRS. Maybe the newer V551's are capable of it where as the older ones wern't.

Thanks. I was thinking that also, I mean the "E" and all :D.

I also think on my older 551 the software was old also. I checked around for the latest available for this phone, R472.G.08.18.16R_OA is what I found and that is what is on this phone. Maybe that's why I get the new icon also.

Yep, the "E" is for EDGE. The v551 was always capable of using EDGE, so maybe your area was just upgraded. Or maybe their was a bug in the firmware that wasn't displying it correctly.

My V635 shows the same icon in SoCal on the T-Mobile network (formerly orange). My old V551 never displayed the icon. Must have been a software issue as mentioned in prior posts.

Yep, My local cell phone store told me the same thing, V551's are capable of EDGE, but the first models had a software bug that showed the GPRS icon for EDGE.
