  1. Well.. darryl the pennypincher decided to change the oil in his own car for once today ( ha ha ), and it went off without a single problem, until I was done. I had done it in a not expensive shirt, but one that I like alot (my mistake).. and it had a LOT of motor oil on it. Well, I got online trying to figure out how to get an oil stain out.. and I saw the craziest thing: put COKE on it, and let it sit for a few hours. Well, how stupid can that be, i thought, and i had some free time, so I did it. The shirt came out looking better than it did before!!

If coke can remove OIL STAINS from a shirt, that just made me imagine what it's doing to our insides < another reason i've quit drinking softdrinks, which should help ryan's quest to drop soft drinks too.. which made me ALSO think, lol, how are you doing with that ryan?

I've used Coke to clean corroded battery terminals on my car before. There's also a 3rd grade science fair experiment where you put a tooth in a glass of Coke. It completely dissolves in a few days. I try to stay away from soft drinks because they're not really good for you.

But hey, I'm a drycleaner and I've never heard of Coke taking out stains. Careful though. A customer brought a shirt with a coke stain on it once. When I asked him how long the stain was there he said a few weeks. When I washed the shirt the area that had the coke on it completely fell apart. The coke had weakened the fibers of the fabric.

  5. Hm.. that makes me want to quit drinking the stuff!!

    Well, I think I'll ask a professional :
Jay, do you have any other suggestions as to how to get an oil stain out? I'm not sure if the dry cleaning would help or not, but I'm not sure of anything else that'll help and i dont wanna risk my shirt falling apart from the coke.. lol Thanks!

  6. lol ok that was weird that it has that twice. But anyway.. read the "quote" ^^ asking if you know any other techniques to help. THANKS alot.

Of the products that are available on the retail market I guess I would try prespotting it with some liquid tide first. It usually works pretty good. At the store I would try prespotting it with some amyl acetate or Pyratex, and drycleaning it. That usually works well on oil. In Laundry I would use either Citru-Kleen or Hydro-Spot. I don't think either is available in retail stores though. I love the citru-kleen though. I keep a gallon of it at home and put a splash in the washer when I do laundry at home. All the clothes smell like oranges when they're done.

If you put it in the dryer it will probably never come out. Your best shot is to soak it in a bucket of water with woolite (light colors) or clorox 2 (darks) in it overnight. That gets some of the toughest set in stuff out.

I would think that something like lemonade would have a better chance of dissolving a tooth since the concentration of citric acid is much higher.

If you think coke is bad, try gatorade. At the fill temperature of about 180 degrees it eats stainless steel. Gatorade not only has more citric acid than coke but it also has a ton of heavy salts. At pasturization temp there is not much it cant eat.

Another weird thing, as in " :censored: shouldn't drink that anymore", gas station cappuccino works better at cleaning dirt and grime off stuff then Srubbing Bubbles.

I found that out at work.

That's interesting. On a somewhat related note I wonder why it says on the pack not to make or store Kool-Aid in metal containers? Does it eat metal too?

FWIW, Coke has phosphoric acid in it, not citric acid. Coke isn't made from citrus fruit. The phosphoric acid in Coke is what cleans metals and such.

the level of phosphoric acid in coke is well below anything that could harm you. Eating an orange is more acidic.

  20. The website thing says.. if you leave it overnight. Jay is saying a few days... do you think that it would dissolve in a few days rather than overnight?

  21. haha gosh, i never knew that.. i'll put my shirt in gatorade :loony: .... jk

  22. I don't think it could do direct harm to you-- but if it dissolves motor oil, it still kinda makes you think though.. or it made me think that anyway..

Gatorade is fine if you want your shirt orange... LOL I can't always get gatorade stains out. I just had a guy today ask why his red wine stains didn't come out afer we recleaned the clothes twice. Come to find out they were stained 2 months ago and he is just now taking them in to be cleaned. That stain is set...

  24. I could use gatorade ICE (the clear kind that taste like strawberry)... but then my shirt would smell strongly of strawberry's so I think i'll use your clorox 2 idea w/ the bucket of water, then go to the dry cleaners if that dont help.

My stain isn't THAT old so maybe it should come out.. im hoping so anyway! :D
