I'm not even going to touch that one! I think I have other things to do, like ensuring your safety on the road by running radar and stopping drunk drivers.

We really couldn't make an on-scene arrest on this. This isn't like a domestic situation where she said he hit her...and she has a bloody nose. The shop would have to show us a log of IP addresses....then we would have to prove Bobolito, that YOUR phone was on their system. What I would do, is if they complained about you...I would have to write it up and ship it to the State's Attorney's office for review....they would file the charges on you(if any). The lawyers are the only one's that can subpoena records from them....and you. This isn't something a cop can prove or disprove right there on the scene. So, I think you are pretty much safe Bobo ;)

Billp, did you read the news article?

This is what the coffe shop owner said:

"He could have just come in the cafe, even if he didn't have any money, I would let him get on it,"

If you serve a free service, then IT IS FREE. Unless you post a sign like:
"Free Internet service only for paying customers". Which makes no sense.

People... don't try to ovethink this situation. Is a ridiculous and stupid incident, even the coffee shop owner think it is. That's why there is a FOX News report on the incident, because is idiotic.

Not only because it is idiotic, but because they know it attracts chatter on the subject so more people will go back to Fox News to read the article as the word spreads. It's all about ratings! :lmao:

Many factors would also affect a potential arrest and prosecution like the person's reaction to being asked to move on.

Like someone else said, morals are morals. Even if it isn't spelled out in plain English (or Spanish these days ) we all know that 'free wifi' is meant to attract customers, not leaches. I will buy a water or something from a shop if I need to get online.

Although more than likely I will do as I did in the airport yesterday and ignore the congested WiFi to use my HSDPA phone tethered (another topic altogether).

At the end of the day, he broke a law and should be ready to take whatever punishment is on the books for said violation. Personally, I think the felony is a bit harsh, but the fine is fine (haha).
