That's so odd...I've had Dish Network for about 3 years now and have never have reception problems due to weather....

I've had the occasional loss of signal (maybe 3 times in 3 years...). Oh yeah...there was that one time I lost signal...it could have anything to do with the power outage, could it?? ;) ;)

point is that with cable for me there's only the occasional interruption, with dish there seems to be more but it also depends on your region.......

Yeah...but for less channels, I can pay $15 more per month...I can handle loss of service 1x/year for that!!! I just read a consumer complaint in my local newspaper who was complaining how often her cable was out...and she's paying so much more than my Dish!!

I agree it heavily depends on the area...

This point can be beaten to death but I suppose a person's definition of "occasional interruption" is key here. As I have said, I have been a DirecTV customer for around 8 years and I can count all of the weather-related interruptions on my hands and feet.

Nobody has brought up the point of cable broadband yet so I will. I can understand where a person who already has cable broadband access would be reluctant to get a dish, regardless of service (Dish Network vs. DirecTV). If they are happy with digital cable and are getting a price break by having broadband too then more power to them. TiVo "standalone" DVRs are available that do not have the DirecTV receiver built-in. TiVo now accounts for about 75% of the reason that I will stay with DirecTV.
