Sanyo 4900 "Missed Calls" because my phone is not ringing

A couple of months ago in these forums I read about Sanyo 4900 owners
who were missing calls because they were ringing directly into voicemail.
Suddenly this past week, my screen has been telling me I have "missed
calls" even though my phone has been right next to me. The week before
that my phone was ringing and I was catching my calls.

Could someone with knowledge of how to remedy this problem please post
back to save me from having to search the really old forum posts?

I reprogrammed my phone so it never slips into sleep mode any more. I am
working out of state and I did not know if my phone stops looking for me
to put a call through when it sleeps outside my home area. (This is
    probably not the problem.

The problem you're referring to that was posted previously was that after changing settings in the phone it would not respond to incoming calls without being rebooted. Calls would go directly to voicemail, abd there woud be NO missed calls reported. If you're seeing missed calls reported that's a different issue, probably something to do with the ringer you selected, or your hearing :)-)), or a defect in the phone.

I've encountered the problems of the "missed calls after settings changed" once since I got my 4900 last week, solved by rebooting, although it does not seem to happen when ringer changes are made on the fly with the side buttons. Is that others' experience as well?

Simply turn the power off for a few seconds and then back on again.

If your phone says "missed calls" then your phone did catch the signal, and did ring. You probably did not hear it. Either that or the person called you, rang once and hung up. The issue most people complain about is when the phone call goes directly into voicemail, and your phone never picked up a signal of any sort at all. Kinda like when your phone is powered off and people go straight into your voicemail. See the difference?

Oh and the purpose of sleep mode is to conserve battery life from your use of your color screen. Incoming calls should not be affected by it at all. Therefore it is not necessary for you to get rid of your sleep mode function. If you turned it off, your battery life might suffer a little.

I have the same problem with my audiovox phone. Someone calls, my phone does not ring (yes i have it in ringer mode), but it says i have a missed call. I call the person back they said that they let it ring until the voicemail picked up. WTF?

Okay, I posted this problem and I will now post the solution, which
does not involve a visit to the audiologist!

If I had mentioned I was only having this problem when I received calls
from "Unknown" parties, this answer might have become more obvious. It turns out that
my Sanyo 4900 ringer was set to not ring whenever a call
was received from a party with "No Caller ID." I had that ringer type set to "None."
I would only have been able to catch those calls if my
phone was within visual sight and I noticed my phone lighting up as the call came in.

To change this so that my phone rings even when the calling party is not
    identified, I went to:
    Settings
    Sounds
    Ringer Type
    Voice Calls
    No Caller ID

and I changed the ringer from "None" to a sound selection
