Sanyo 4900 Has BUGS!!!! HELP!

My Sanyo 4900 (and other people's as well) has a BAD problem! I mean, it will miss calls. It has nothing to do with the network, or with a weak signal. It has to do with the phone itself. When I play around with settings on this phone (as far as I can figure) sometimes it will cause the phone not to ring when called, unless I reboot the phone. I can try and retry calling my phone from a landline and it will not ring through to the phone, although the caller hears the ringing on their end. Yes, the phone is in Sprint PCS mode, and signal is fine, and it's not a busy time of day. This is a definate phone problem, and I have spoken with others who have missed calls with this model phone. I have the original software version on this phone. Does the newer version fix this bug, or just the problems with using PCS Vision? As soon as I reboot the phone, it will ring through to my phone EVERY SINGLE TIME, OVER AND OVER. But, like I said, if I go into any various settings on my phone right now and change anything, chances are maybe 1 in 3 that my phone will NOT be able to receive any calls unless I turn it off and on again.

Is anything being done to fix this problem? I mean, basically it means that this phone is defective, and part of the reason I bought the phone is to receive calls. As long as the network allows and the signal is good, the phone should work properly also.

I like this phone, but if I can't get it to keep from missing calls, I don't know what I am going to do.

    Any help???

I've seen that same bug. I've tried to find out which setting causes it, but I couldn't find a pattern. Sometimes I could reproduce the bug, sometimes I couldn't. I did notice that when I try placing an outgoing call after seeing the bug, the call would fail, and the phone would redial, and then it would work.

I've also noticed another bad bug, but I can't remember exactly how I produced it. It was some combination of being on the web and getting a short mail notification. The phone would freeze, and it would restart itself.

Is there any place we can report these bugs to? If I could get my hands on the firmware files, I could try and fix these bugs myself! [IMG]

Hrrmmmm... I have never had this problem with my 4900 and I have tinkered with the settings on it quite abit. I did have this same problem with the A500 and this was one of the reasons I returned the A500, along with the crappy reception. Do you know which version of SW you are running on your phone? It is under phone info in the settings menu.

    LOL...
    U ARE A MORON!!!!

WHY... would you complain about your phone when you yourself have said it has an old version of software!!! Think about this in terms of a computer... would you complain about how your windows XP isn't working like everyone elses if you were still running the BETA version of XP??? Get the new software!!!! I have the sanyo 4900 w/ the newest software version, and I haven't had a single problem!

I also own a Sany 4900 with the original software version. The problem doesn't seem to even be certain settings on the phone. It will just have times where it misses calls completely. This is the most aggravating thing and I"m wondering if maybe it's only a glitch with the newest Sanyo phones that came out right when vision started in sept. If it's a hardware problem sanyo must give free replacements. I didn't pay money for a piece of metal with a funny ringer

I havent heard of the bug. If it is a huge known issue, technical reps will receive notices from sprint corp, or sanyo themselves. But to my knowledge, no such info was given. You can try reporting it to sanyo if you feel it is a genuine problem. But just so you know, it is not entirely uncommon that a phone occasionally misses a call, or goes straight into voicemail even if the signal shows full. Rare, but does happen. If you are that concerned, go into a store and have a tech look at it and possibly replace it.

As for receiving shortmail while in a call or vice versa. This sometimes freezes up the phone. It has happened on my 5150 once only. I was on instant messenger and a phonecall came in and froze the phone. It then restarted itself. Your phone like a regular computer has a processor chip inside. Just like a computer freezes and restarts, so will your phone. Your phone probably couldnt handle too many things going on at once. I dont see what the big deal is. Its no more inconvenient to me than a regular dropped call. Please remember that no cell phone is 100% perfect or reliable. So please dont freak out over every little thing!

The version I have is the 1.047SP, which is the one that came with the phone. And this is the version where I discovered both bugs.

Also, I just discovered another minor bug. When you're at the address book and you have the person's email address highlighted, and you click Options->Send Email, the URL it tries to go to no longer exists. Too bad, it would have been cool to email right from the address book.

PS. I write and test software, so I like trying weird things and I come across weird bugs. [IMG]

You might just have a jacked-up phone. I have a 4900, and I can send email through the address book as you described without a problem. And yes, it is pretty cool....

I had phones with both versions and they both missed calls--it is very frustrating. Chris

It happenned to me once, after changing some internal settings. It seems NOT to happen after using the side buttons to change the ringer on-the-fly.

I have the same problem in sending email from the phone list. Did your problem work itself out? Right now it takes me to a URL that doesn't exist...
