We take a trip to see the Sandhill Cranes in NE. I was a little skeptical about this in the beginning but it was very definitely worth it. Here is the Rowe Game Sanctuary where we went and some of the pictures that my hubby took. Hope you like them....
Those are really spectacular pictures, Charlyee. Sounds like you had a good time. Thanks for sharing the pix.
Charlyee, These pictures are unbelievable. So, engineers and brilliant physicists can actually figure out cameras as well. I used the one with the Sun as my background on my laptop. Great job Buddy!! :notworthy
Hey thanks so much for sharing...Those pictures are truly amazing!!! If you don't mind I will 'steal' one of those pictures and also put it as my background on my computer.
Thanks Andy, and please do, my hubby will consider it a great compliment. Thanks Gamer Thanks Mike, yes I had a great time. Probably the only time I got up at 4:00am two days in a row without complaining... Thanks Joe Hey buddy, don't you have that backwards? It is supposed to be "phycists & brilliant engineers". Whose friend are you anyway... Thank you Steven, my hubby will be flattered.
Great pictures!! I never knew there were so many of them in one place. Also, shooting into the sun is notoriously difficult, so he obviously knows what he is doing. Thanks. SW
Thanks Steve, the number of cranes that gather on a 65 mile stretch of the Platte river for 2-4 weeks is more than half a million, it is absolutely fascinating. Interestingly enough they split into two groups when they leave and one group goes to Hudson Bay area and the other to Alaska & Siberia. Yes, he knows what he is doing, unfortunately it takes him way too long to sort his pictures, atleast way more than my patience allows. He doesn't know I posted these pictures, if I asked him he would have said "let me sort out some good ones for you", and as you know by the time he would be done sorting, the chicks of this group would be ready to have chicks of their own....:lmao: I am sure he would find flaws with each one of the pictures I posted but hey I just grabbed the first six that caught my attention.
Those are wonderful Charlyee!! Funny how you find the best surprises when you least expect to. I will have to take a break from my NASA "tradition" and steal one or two of these to use as my wallpaper for awhile. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you hme . Yes the best surprises are the unexpected ones. Although I80 through IA & NE is quite boring and fortunately I could entertain myself with Network Codes His tripod was not tall enough so he used his custom made (by me ofcourse) 10" x 6" bean bag and rested his lens on it. That bean bag has travelled a few continents with us and seem to work very well. I am not sure about all the 500mm ones, some of the dawn ones look like the lens was pointing up. We were standing inside a wooden box with cutouts facing the river. I am posting a couple of pictures maybe that will in visualizing what it looked like. Thank you very much, the pictures were taken by my husband. He shoots both 35mm & digital, these particular ones are digital using a Nikon D70.
Cool, I am also a fellow photographer along with my father, we just got back a little while ago from Bonita Springs, Florida (it's near Fort Myers) and we went to alot of great places like Ding Darling, Corkscrew, and the Everglades Nat'l park. I would highly recommend those places for bird photography, and another plus is that it's really warm compared to up where we live I shoot with a Canon Mark-II, and soon the Canon Mark-III. It's all digital for us.
That's a wonderful picture of the outhouse...looks comfy! Just kidding Charlyee I had to mention that photo What wonderful shots! Sometimes when I take photos they come out so good....and other times, like a night they come out like junk. I just have a Kodak EasyShare CX7430. Last summer I took pictures at my girlfriends sister's wedding, in California, and she wanted my pictures over the photographer they paid....I guess theirs were embarrassing. I don't know, I never did see any of them. I did nothing special either......and I am by any means no photographer :O :O
Good to know, thanks. You know I expected NE to be cold but we got temperatures in the high 60s during the day when back home it was barely 30. I guess Spring comes earlier out West, ofcourse I am not sure if Spring is ever going to come around here this year. Thanks Shizam, hey maybe you missed your calling, you never know. Btw: If you notice that outhouse says "women" there isn't any for the men, I guess they share the shrubbery with the cranes.
Since we are talking about the outdoors and birds, if anyone is interested, please check out the photographs that my dad, sister, and I took on our family's business website. If anyone knows people that are interested in eco tours, and visits the Southwest Florida area, please tell them to consider us. We would appreciate it. Here is the website (Southwest Florida EcoTours, Inc.): Main site: http://www.southwestfloridaecotours.com/ Photography: http://www.southwestfloridaecotours.com/Gallery/photogallery.html By the way, I made the entire site in Dreamweaver 8, Macromedia Flash 8, Macromedia Fireworks 8, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe GoLive, and Adobe InDesign. The photo gallery slideshow was made in Flash 8. The only part that I did not make was the reservation page (the three tour links under the reservation drop down menu that we offer).
Thanks for the info. Gamer03!! I've intended to make a full blown vaca out of the Keys, Everglades National Park, and that area after being in Miami in 2000. (I just never seem to "finish" in any area that I visit on vaca. ) Your region is very unique in it's beauty.
Thanks Alienware_51. The next time that you are down here, let me know. My dad does an excellent narration and even shows edible plants that the Indians and settlers used to eat. Thanks Dave. Let me know when you are down here next time. We can have another meet and greet and if you want, you can take a tour that is narrated by my dad who does an excellent job. Thanks dmapr. I love Southwest Florida. There are so many things to do here. I have some friends that were born here and they said that there is nothing to do down here. :loony: Your welcome hme83. That is one thing about vacations. As soon as it is finished, you wish you had more time to go to certain areas you did not visit while there. My family and I run into the exact same problems.
