OKay, Thanks to everyone's advice, I have decided I'm okay w/o trimode. I've narrowed my choices to these:
    Samsung A530 or A670, or LG VX6000.

I realize A530 is w/o camera. Don't need one; though it would be fun. All three meet my criteria.

Looking for the best overall of the three in terms of reception, clarity, durability. This will be my first VZW phone.

Many thanks for the advice and discussion thus far; looking forward to lots of feedback on this one.

    Thanks you!!! :)

Hi Tony, thanks for taking the time to post *twice*. It's not that I don't believe you; I did go to the VZW store to check them out (didn't see the A530) but wasn't crazy about the feel of the LG, tho I'd previously been leaning that way. Plus from some of the less positive reviews on phonescoop (where all three got really good reviews) the concerns were the same as mine. I think a couple also mentioned no easy way to disconnect when driving; and of course NJ just passed the no hands phone law.

They all three look really decent, but my gut is saying A670 right now.

    decisions, decisions...............................
