I guess Samsung is forever relegated to be a supplier but never a successful integrator as Apple.

It's good that Apple's needs are helping to keep Samsung afloat.

It could be, but it's not exclusive. Apple would never be in an exclusive with Samsung. They like to keep the threat of using another source alive

I thought I read that Samsung was going to produce all the Qualcomm CPU's now.

@KevinJames I hope you under that I'm pulling your leg here, since whenever you post something like the OP your meaning is to imply that Apple and Samsung phones are equivalent or some such thing.

There is a difference between a supplier and a designer. It's just the way business is done.

As far as I understand Samsung is pulling their eggs in every basket. It's kinda like playing roulette by placing bets on red, black, zero and double zero. You're guaranteed some return, but you may not get all your money back :)

Anyway, getting back on track. Apple couldn't exist without Samsung. (Let's see what firestorm this unleashes! LOL)

And by the way, I now equally despise both companies, so I'm an equal opportunity hater.

@ KevinJames, there is no question that Apple and Samsung have a strong relationship, that both cannot seem to separate. Sort of like the classic, much spoofed French- English love/hate relationship

Without Samsung, Apple probably wouldn't meet volume, delivery deadlines, and low component prices. They do source to other suppliers, which deliver, but not always meeting the above criteria. This is what I read into this. Apple cannot afford to lose Samsung, if it wishes to deliver on time, and at its price point.

20% of Samsung all yearly revenue comes from Apple buying components (~$11 billion). That revenue comes from Samsung 's electronic components division. Samsung cannot afford to lose Apple's money, as it supports Samsung and its barely profitable smartphone division.

Samsung also needs Apple around to help them decide what the next product will be. . Not entirely true, but certainly mostly. But look at the smartwatch.

Otherwise they would happily part ways. Samsung has contract language that legally separates business secrets received by its electronic divisions from Samsung's chip and smartphone division - they cannot share information. One can laugh at that ( and it is laughable), but the consequences would be more clear, and severe than patent infringement. Still, screen sizes, memory orders orders, etc are hard to hide in reality.

But these components aren't the things that define the two products in all ways. I think that is so obvious. The A series processor chip is wholly Apple's design- Samsung is just the machine shop, and a good one.

@viewfly: Actually, I completely agree with that statement. Who else would they use to model knock-offs after? Sad but true that integrity in the corporate world is non-existent.
