I have fallen in love with this phone. but the price is a little dawnting, so i am waiting for it to pass the $200 mark. i was wondering if maybe i should by it on ebay for a reletivly cheap price, what is the downside of this? Also i would like to know how difficult it is to put MP3s on the phone. does it give you software to convert regular CDs to MP3s. and how many songs does the 512 MB hold. Is there a good place that you would advise to buy this phone?
I just picked one up myself. I paid $230+ tax for it with a new contract. It's easy to put mp3's on the phone... u can just put them on the memory card or transfer directly. HOWEVER if you do that, you'll only be able to listen to them and not use them as ringers. To use them as ringers, all you have to do is rename the file with a 3gp extension. ex: song.mp3 needs to be renamed to song.3gp.
every time I try to change the file extension on the phone to 3gp, the phone automaticly add .mp3 after .3gp for ex: Song.mp3, using the rename option on the phone I change it to song.3gp then the phone automaticly call it song.3gp.mp3
How To: Make your own mp3 ringtones work on a Samsung Sgh-T809 Cell Phone First you will need a few things: 1) An mp3 file you want to put as your ringer. I will assume you have already made a clip or cut your song to fit the 30 second ringtone length. You can have the whole mp3 on your phone but unless you will be using it in the mp3 player on the phone why waste the space. DON’T FORGET TO BACK UP YOUR FILE BEFORE DOING ANYTHING HERE. I have had no issues but don’t want to be blamed for lost files. 2) A data cable (I don’t have Bluetooth on my computer so I have not tried this method) 3) Of course your t809 with the TransFlash or MicroSD card inserted Ok now lets start 1. Find your mp3’s you want to use and make a new folder and copy all of the mp3s that you will use as ring tones to that folder. MAKE SURE TO COPY AND NOT MOVE THESE FILES. 2. Navigate on your computer to that folder and right click and select new text document. 3. Rename the new document something like “mp3 to 3gp conversion.bat” as long as you have the .bat extension you will be ok. A popup from windows will come up and say "if you change a file extension the file may become unusable" click ok. 4. Now right click the new file and click “edit” DO NOT double click or right click open as you will not be able to do any thing with it. 5. Now type this in REN *.MP3 *.3GP or you can cut and paste it This will allow this file to convert all of your .mp3 file extensions to a .3gp file extension, only within the folder it is in, DO NOT FOR ANY REASON PUT THIS IN YOUR MP3 FOLDER FOR YOUR MUSIC ONLY PUT IT IN THE FOLDER FOR MAKING YOUR RING TONES so it will work on the t809. 6. Now save that file. 7. Now simply double click on that file. As a note I have Microsoft anti-apyware and it pops up a warning about are you sure you want to run this script click yes. Basically what we are doing with this script is just renaming the extension to .3gp from .mp3 if you are not happy with this easy method you can do all of this work: you don’t have to do the following if you will be using the script we just made this is only for people who want to do it the hard way so if you will use the script we made just go to step 8. A. Assuming you are already in the folder with your mp3s to use as ring tones, go to folder options in the tools menu and click the view tab scroll down and make sure the box marked hide extensions for known file types is UNCHECKED then apply and click ok. B. Then go to the file you want to change and right click select rename and delete the .mp3 and put .3gp in its place, after doing this correctly windows will prompt "if you change a file extension the file may become unusable" C. Repeat step B for every mp3 file you want to change to 3gp 8. Now that we have our mp3s renamed to 3gps we will set up the phone. On your phone we have to change the usb mode to “mass storage” A. Hit Menu B. Select Settings C. Select Phone Settings D. Select Usb settings E. Select Mass Storage 9. Done with that now plug in your phone. I am assuming you have already set up your computer with the drivers and have hooked your phone up at least 1. 10. Now select all of the files you want to transfer to the phone. Right click and choose “Send To” and you should have a removable disk there send them there. Or just drag and drop them onto your phone in windows explorer. Although it does not matter which directory you put the files in on the phone it is easier to have it organized so put it in the Music folder. Now it will be on the flash card in your phone. You can disconnect your phone now. 11. Last step on your phone select your ringers as such A. Hit Menu B. Select Fun & Apps C. Select File Manager D. Select Memory Card E. Select the folder your music is in F. Highlight the file you want as a ringer G. Hit Options H. Select Set As I. And select what you want. 12. That’s it you are finished. Enjoy you new ring tones. Sorry about the length of this I just wanted everyone to be able to do it. Even noobs. Remember you were a noob too at some point.

Hey this phone is great but how can I add music to my MP3 player without the trans flash card? When I try to add the songs it says the file type is not valid & wants me to put it in the other files where I cant listen to it or do anything other than send it somewhere. Anyone help me out?
you have to put the phone into modem mode instaed of mass storage and make sure the file is an mp3 dont convert or change the file just leave it an mp3. however this will make not usable as a ringtone.
Actually had switched to modem from mass storage before the first post. I hear there's a way to add music to this phone without my trans flash card. I take the song in Windows Media Player & save it to my computer then when I try to add the file to my phone it says "file type is invalid". If someone could tell me how to do it that would be great.
sorry but i still dont know wat to do the only reason i bought the phone is because i could have my own ringers but i'am thinking about taking it back please help me
Issue resolved. Indeed the problem was I needed to retrieve the songs from my Limewire library instead of my Windows Media Player library. Much thanks Anton2g for your advice on "cutting out the middle man". Works every time.
ok everyone with problems go here http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/samsung/12976-samsung-t809-4.html i wrote a pretty much perfect and easy how to for almost every thing first look there try it and if it still doesnt work then pm me
i try to copy the file .3gp onto my memory card but it says i have write-protection and i dont know how to turn it off..any ideas??
Thanks a lot! it works perfectly fine. I have another problem: somehow when i convert my wma files to mp3 using the method you use above, and put those converted mp3 files to my phone, it gives me a message saying, "not supported content". Is there any reasons for this? thanks again for your help
cutting your song down is as simple as using the software that came with the phone. if you installed the samsung pc studio, there is an audio editor built in with it, works great for creating ringtones.
yeah but how does that audio editor work.... but more importantly i got a huge question...i'm about to get a new microSD memory card for my phone , would a 2G micro SD work on the phone ...or am i just goin to have to buy the 512, is the 2G too much any ways?
i would like to know the same thing....anyone have the answer the that question or whats the max it can support?
Hi, Can someone please let me know how can one transfer all the numbers stored in the sim to the phone or vice versa in one go in a samsung t 809 phone. Thanks much!!!!
how do u convert them mp3 filez to that 3gp thing or w.e it is ? can someone plz help me ive been tryin to do this for like 12 hours now?
M.A.R.C. U said that u will have 2 change the extention on the phone 2 use it as a ring tone, but not so, because Im using a ring tone Ive created myself with a MP3 format and it works just fine.
Styles37 Anyone who's trying to use ur own ring tone for the t809, u don't have to change the file format to 3gp, because Ive created my own ring tone using the mp3 file extention and it works just fine....it's just kind of tricky, but mp3 do work......
