I'm a grad student, and my parents still have me on their family plan because it's a lot cheaper for all of us. I've been on their plan for 3 years, and they've been with AT&T wireless for about 5. Last January, I had my ancient Nokia 1000 series that could survive anything under the sun with a sleeker Samsung A737 at the request of my girlfriend.
I've been very happy with the Samsung. 2 weeks ago I was coming out of the bathroom, and I had a call come in. I picked it up and my hand was wet. I didn't think anything of it, until the screen started fading out. By the end of the afternoon, the screen had gone completely. I had thought that I accidentally cracked the screen, but when I inspected the battery, I noticed that the color strip was starting to turn pink. Oops. The strip itself is still white on one side, and pink on the other half. I know that water damage is water damage, and once the tab turns even slightly pink, the warranty's void.
I tried getting my phone replaced on my own in the Bronx, but none of the AT&T stores around me could help me since I wasn't the primary name on the account. My parents live in Oklahoma and have been trying to help me on their end. They gave me the 1-800 number for AT&T and said I could get the phone replaced if I say the screen on my phone isn't working.
What options do I have? If I report the water damage, I won't be eligible to have my phone replaced. I don't want to lie about the damage either.
It's not like I'm dunking my phone after 8 months to get a new one, but I definitely expect a phone to handle more abuse than a little bit of water. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

I take it you don't have insurance coverage for the phone? If so, then water damage is covered.

Other options include contacting at&t customer service re: low-cost replacement options which they may have available. Also you can purchase a phone from a source other than at&t and transfer your SIM to the new phone. Just make sure you get a phone that is either unlocked or locked to at&t, and one that supports both the 850/1900 mhz frequencies.

First... callyour parents have them add you as an authourised user... then you can maintain your service more efficiently...

second... if you process a warranty echange... that indicator dot is checked... if the warranty is void due to water damage you will be charged for the replacement ....solution buy a phone on your own.... like a gophone and just use your sim in it
