Thats great, but please don't quote things that aren't correct, that isn't the intention of this thread. You haven't found out anything here that we don't already know. When you find out what format a BSS is in then you can start calling me names and junk! Otherwise, surf to my site, which has had many many hits from tones of phones so far, and it's library is increasing each day. So far I think it's the only server that offers ringtones for the A460 for free? Or am I mistaken? also, I've uploaded peoples own ringers and am still accepting new ones. Can't we all just get along?
If someone could tell me what MIME type the A310 uses on bell i'd be more than happy to set it up for you.
so basically, there is no way for sprint users to download anything off of the wap, unless we go through sprint?
Hey JQS, is there anyway you can find out the a310's mime types so that footose can set up something for us A310 users?
I've already done it and testing is in progress... In a day you'll be able to automatically log your MIME types and come back and view them via a normal PC browser... I've got the WAP interface done, now I just need to develop the HTML frontend...
does the usb data cable work in uploading ring tones and scren savers to the a460??? cuz if you get one of those...that could be a loophole in sprint's plan to prohibit downloading
Hey Merlyn (and anyone else who cares)... I ran my A310 past JQS's server and we got the MIME types for both the Verizon gateway and the WAPTunnel gateway... The results are posted on my "A310 Technical Info" page... http://webpages.charter.net/hideo_a310/a310_tech.htm There aren't any MIME types that just jump out and say "Downloadable Ringers!", but we're still toying with things slowly but surely... Just figured I'd let everyone know that the MIME info for the A310 as it stands now is posted...
OK, I'm not real good at this kinda stuff but here's what I do know. The website www.pcspix.com can be used to upload files to, then you can download those files from there directly to a sprint pcs vision phone. unfortunately our a460 is not vision enabled so it does not work for us. however maybe one of y'all smart guys can figure something out from that info. it should be possible to download from external websites if you can do it with vision phones.
Im yet another looking for answers, sprintpcs ringers and more suk, so ringers and screensavers anyone have any updated info on them? yes I read alla these posts but I am not like super understanding what t all mean, tha technical shyt, help! want my phineto do what footose's did onn video ty! wicked
JQS, If you would like someone to test it from a A310 on Verizon please forward me the link. I have some time off so I'll get a list of WAP gateways and hit your site from each one to see if we can find other gateways with the "hole" for it. I'm assuming your site can log by phone type and WAP gateway so we can maybe find the similarities? Thanks, Jef http://phones.kazimer.net
I just wanted to thank jqs for all that good infomation that you have been providing. From your information I have been able to configure my server for MIMe and file extensions needed to download my own tones to my a460 and it feels great. Once I put a few more touches in I will post my site up so others the use the a460 will be able to get quality tones without having to pay an arm and a leg for them. Now I have to go through the thread again to see if there is some good info on pics and screen savers. Well thank again jqs you are a class act
Whoa! You are in the USA and my method works for you? Who is your carrier? Email me, I want to see your MIME types! nudge nudge ! If you provide that information, then we can determine whom else can actually use your sever...
Hi again, Sorry to get your hopes up but it was just a mistake in my profile. I am from Canada. Montreal to be more precise. As for the MIME that I am using I got it from page 1 of this thread. I am still new at this web thing and cell phones but I do learn fast and with people such as yourself I will learn much faster. Thanks again and I will be watching your site and when I can I will post a site that that others can use to get there tones.
The site is up! At least paritally... Go to http://phones.iridani.cx and read the news post for information on how to use the site...
I went to the site with my A540 and I couldn't find the news link.. what are the directions in order to get the mime information to do the look up? maybe you can post directions on how to do that. Maybe we can find a way to make the A540 on Telus work as well as the A460?
Sorry, Browse to the website with a 'desktop' browser, IE: not your phone... Then read the news on how to use the site... Sorry to confuse you, but if you go tot the site with your phones you get one interface, but an entirely different one with your regular browser!
http://www.nic.fi/~aho/wap/poly_over_wap.htm Intersting howto to setup IIS to serve MIDI ringtones over WAP. Jef
Hehe....looks like most of the phones to hit that site are A310's, like myself. Any luck on getting a ringer onto the A310 recently?
Jef... Unfortunately the SMAF ringtype that is described on that page is not compatible with the A310 (at least not that I can figure). That media type is for slightly older, mainly European and Asian phones that used a Yahama chipset for the sounds. The A310 uses a Qualcomm 5100 chipset which has MIDI decoding built-in, so I'm about 97% sure that Samsung just used this on the A310... The MyMelody program makes those SMAF type ringer files, so older phones like the T300 use those, but newer ones like the A310, A460, and A500 don't seem to use that chipset anymore... Just thought I'd throw that in...
so what exactly do you type into the mime search window at the top? has anyone else with an A540 tried accessing this site yet to check if the d/l work? I will do whatever I can to help figure out how to make this work with the A540. Previously you needed people to hit your site to get MIME info?I will definitely volunteer and I have server space to runs tests and hopefully host a site to allow free d/l's!! I just need help cause honestly I'm new to this but will definitely appeciate any help!
Okay I guess I'm none too clear about how the site works... 1) Browse to http://phones.iridani.cx with your cell phone. 2) Read the 'Disclaimer' and choose to 'Log MIMEs' 3) The site will report back that it was successful and will tell you and ID value. 4) Get on a computer and browse to the website : http://phones.iridani.cx 5) Put the ID value you got off of your phone into the 'MIME Lookup' box and hit Search. 6) You'll get a status page with all the information I could gather about your phone. In the future I will be addig explanations as to what things mean. I'm currenlty working on the FAQ and hope to have it installed by the end of the evening.
Okay guys, I'm now moving on to the next stage on the website. I'm setting up a few directories that will be used by people to download a ringtone to see if the procedure works for their phone. So... I need ringtones to use. First I just want a MIDI ringtone that the a460 uses, BUT it needs to be a free ringtone. Something that no one will claim ownership over. This is so that I don't get in trouble. If you've got a ringtone as required, give me a shout via email...
ok.. i logged into the site via my phone on the A540 and I got the mime code # and it showed a lot of info! I definitely have no idea what all that info means but I hope you can decode it... I also hope it helps us get closer to getting things to work with Telus phones as well! I didn't see any blank fields so things looks pretty good. I think i'm the first A540 to try logging into your site from Telus.. I hope its helpful! if you need anything else from me.. email me or find me on msn messenger and I'll do what I can... darkmagic99@hotmail.com Ted
