"While some of this is not surprising the latest rumor from GizmoFusion shows that Verizon is moving 4 BlackBerry models to End Of Life status. This includes the BlackBerry Storm 9530 (Original Storm), BlackBerry Curve 8330, BlackBerry 8830, and the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230. I am still kind of shocked that Verizon is killing off the 8330 which is the most popular smartphone out today even though it has been replaced by the 8530.

The other surprise is that Verizon is also killing off the Pearl Flip 8230. That device was just released a few months ago and it is already gone. I guess that opens the door for the 9100 Striker soon… Now if only Verizon could get around to releasing the Tour2 9650 along with OS 5.0 for the original Tour 9630."

It makes sense, especially for the oft-maligned Storm (first release). Why bother keeping the old Storm when a new and improved replacement is available? It makes sense for them to put the older models out to pasture. Must be the new Curve is selling well enough to warrant discontinuing the older version. As far as the Pearl flip goes, that phone never took off with either Verizon or T-Mobile, so it's probably better the Pearl flip move on to cell phone oblivion.

If Verizon was removing ALL BlackBerry's, then I'd be concerned some executive's lost his marbles. BB's are too important to all carriers, so I agree with Verizon's "out with the old, in with the new".

    Just my :twocents:.

The Pearl flip is selling better on T-Mobile than Verizon, which is probably why it is being discontinued with Verizon, while T-Mobile continues to sell it, but I do agree that it isn't as popular as the other Blackberries that are out there. I personally, would go with another model phone altogether if I where going to get a flip phone.............

I read that Verizon will be starting a new Blackberry service for their prepaid customers. It will be interesting to see if any of these discontinued models will be offered as a prepaid package.
