I will say that I've never been there. But a quick scan of cellreception.com/towers shows multiple Midwest Wireless owned towers in Rochester. That site doesn't even show but about 1/3 of the cell sites in any given location. I would expect improvement and I think there is a good reason to believe that you will get improvement. But as I said before, I'm not familiar with the area.

Where it gets hairy is if you're an Alltel customer in a location that Midwest also covers. Will you be divested and if so, what towers will be available to you in the immediate future. I have no idea. But if you do know that you will be with Alltel, I do think your coverage will improve based on the information I gave before.

Yes I would expect it to improve. They likely haven't haven't had chance to do anything with the towers because it wasn't completly approved.

Once Alltel's newly aquired Midwest Wireless market is integrated with Alltel's current network you will have excellent coverage in and around Rochester. I am pretty familiar with the reception in the area.

As far as when that integration is to take place.....I would guess a couple months at least:confused:

In the mean time you could set the MWW sid (1372) as home which would give you better coverage.

    1. Press Menu
    2. 0
    3. all zeros
    4. 1 (Service Prg)
    5. ok ESN
    6. ok Phone Number
    7. ok Nam1 Home Sid
    8. ok Nam1 Name
    9. more Nam1 Completed
    10. ok Security Code
    11. ok Nam1 MCC
    12. ok Nam1 NMSID
    13. ok Nam1 True IMSI MCC
    14. ok
    15. ok PRL enabled
    16. Change the index to "1" by hitting right or left. When you get to "1", go down to where it says SID, hit ok and put in 1372.Hit ok again and then hit end. At this time your phone will restart itself.

You should be roaming on Midwest's MN network now. Let me know if you have any difficulties or if more explanation is needed.

thanks much, however,I turned my lg390 phone back in.I was dissatisfied with the clarity, and wanted something with bluetooth. I got a nokia2865.
voice clarity and reception seem much better. However the banner always reads roaming when I leave my home area. seems confusing that Alltel has towers and I am always roaming.

Alltel does that. If you leave your home SID it will say it is in free roam. Even if you are still on Alltel. Not sure of the reasoning behind this...

I'm on my third Nokia. I've tried other brands but they haven't been as good.

    To program your nokia....
    *3001#12345#
    Select NAM1
Go down to and select CDMA Settings
Go down to and select SID/NID lists
    Select Home SID/NID
Go down til you find a Home SID (1-20) with the numbers below marked zero.
Hit select and put in 1372
    Hit ok

Now you can exit by hitting end til all those menus go away.
Your phone should pick up MWW's network and start displaying the Alltel banner thing. You can add other SIDs too. I have all the alltel SIDs entered that I happen to use when I travel.

Data and text messaging should work on Midwest's network. I think it started in late August.

Yeah that'll work. Or, you can have both in at the same time. I think 20 is the most amount of home SIDs you can have at one time in a Nokia.
