As a sound designer seeing a new market opening up, I've got one overriding question--specifically about creating MIDI ringtones: Have the soundchips in mobiles had their voices "broken out" in software or samples to allow a reasonable match between authoring and final ring quality?

Some 3rd party service providers I'm speaking with are looking to distinguish themselves in the ringtone service arena by tailoring the ringtone files to the specific chip it will play back on. As a composer I recognize that this would require some kind of knowledge about each chip's soundset--if not actual playback samples. How can I find out more about this?
