A friend of a colleague lost her phone, it was her only phone (she has no landline) and was used for business. It was reported to Verizon as lost and it has been deactivated. Once the phone is replaced, will she be able to retain the phone number from the lost phone, or must Verizon issue a new phone number? Ed
If you activate a new phone on the same line then the same number moves to the new phone. I switched phones every few months when I had VZW and I always had the same number even though I was switching to different phones a lot.
That's not the same as losing a phone. I think that VZW might have security concerns about retaining the same phone #
There is no problem, whatsoever. When I lost my phone, the replacement was activated with the same number. The old phone, when reported lost, is placed on a hot sheet so it can't be reactivated.
I received word that the person's phone has been replaced and she was able to retain the same phone number with Verizon.
Ed, Glad to hear it. And the answer is yes, if you lose your phone, VZW just freezes the account/number until the phone is found or a new phone is purchased. There is not problem whatsoever in keeping the same number.
