Has anyone read or heard anything about when AT&T will convert their remaining EDGE only cell sites to HSPA or HSPA+? Over on HoFo, someone said that AT&T will convert all EDGE-only sites to 3G by the end of 2012. I find that hard to believe, but would be ecstatic if it were true.
I didn't know they had any EDGE only sites anymore. Its been years since I was in an area that was EDGE only.
Lol come to northern MI! You'll be able to access it everywhere! Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk
lol, isn't half of AT&Ts network still EDGE only? orange = EDGE/GSM http://www.xti9.com/att/att3gfull.gif
Most of the sites around these parts have 3G on them. Amazingly, they have HSPA+ in Valdosta and Bainbridge!!!! And 3G in Thomasville and Cairo!!! Glad to see them not standing still around here! In Alabama, AT&T was helped along when they bought Alltel there PS It is weird that there is one splotch of HSPA surrounded by EDGE
Lol! So lucky! On a different note, AT&T filed an application with the FCC that is "major" for my cellular market. Here is the link to the pending application: ULS Application - Cellular - 0005019276 - New Cingular Wireless PCS, LLC Note: My home tower is "Location 3" in the documents. Make sure to look at the attachments as well. Can anyone explain what this is in layman's terms? :O EDIT: From what I've read so far, they plan on changing the following to my closest cell tower (<1 mile) - Change radial effective radiated power (ERP) on a number of "RADIALS" (they list 8) - Change the distance to the service area boundaries (SAB) - Added channel block "A" - Change the distance to the cellular geographical serving area (CGSA) EDIT 2: It seems like AT&T has been granted permission by the FCC to install new antennas on the following cell sites. See attached PDF. The Rogers City site is the first on the list. However, unlike most listed, it only shows one antenna. Most other sites have 2 or more. So....what does this mean lol?
After looking at a ton of the maps and attachments. I'm pretty sure the black dots on this map will be the cell sites that receive 3G in the next 12 months. Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk
Update: I'm willing to bet this will be the 3G coverage by the end of 2012 in northeast MI. Complete coverage in Cheboygan, Grayling, Alpena, along US-23, M-72, one site on M-68 near Rogers City, and I-75. Attached is my guess & also current 3G map.
I've looked over everything you've referenced. From the table in the non-map attachment, the ULS tower location is existing (not Add), and being Modified (location 3 is in the third column). Going to column 7 (P)roposed antenna [nothing there yet]. Column 9 ULS Antenna Action (M)odify -- [there's an antenna there already?, Add seems more correct]. Last column 13 shows 31 (page of attachment) to designated antenna, an omni-directional Andrew DB812. Since they're adding Cellular Band A, have you been using PCS (from this same tower) or using the some other cellular tower site in the interior of CMA 475? By adding Cellular A here, that means it wasn't at location 3 yet. This filing concerns only the sites on the boundaries of CMA 475, which might affect others holding Cellular A band licences adjoining CMA 475. COtech
Thanks for the reply! From location 3 (home cell) I've been always on 850Mhz. Very odd. Except they are using omni's on this cell site, which are old. And I'm not sure why they are proposing to change the Transmitting ERP up to 88.300 from 70.100.
I heard from multiple sources that northeast MI will be almost all 3G by summer. The tower at my house is supposedly scheduled to get 3G equipment by the end of March. By August most of the NE side should be lit up.
