Hi everyone. I did a search for this but was unable to find something that really answered my question. Here is my issue. In October I used my new every two discount to get a silver motorola V3m razr phone. It hasn't worked well since I got it. The screen freezes and everything takes a really long time to process. It's like an old computer in that it has to think before it will do anything. I've just been dealing with it and being annoyed by it and today I was looking at new phones online, because I really, really hate this phone and the online chat person came on and gave me tech supports number. So I call. We go through a few simple things before a stupid question from me "hey, what's this red button for?" tells the phone rep that the phones been wet. So I have a sensor that is about 3/4 red with white mottling and 1/4 white. The problem is, my phone has never been wet. I've never even taken it near water, let alone in. The phone rep suggested that maybe I'd had it in a steamy bathroom or something, but that's ridiculous. Also it's never happened. She said I could take it to a store so a tech could look at it to determine if it's been exposed to water. My question though, is what exactly will a tech do except look at that sensor? I'm just s.o.l. because I got a faulty phone and I'm lazy? It doesn't seem fair to me. I mean doesn't Verizon send people refurbished phones for the new every two sometimes? Help! Sorry this is so long. Thank you for all your help.
Re: red moisture sensor on a phone that hasn't gotten wed High humidity can also cause the dot to turn red, and slow response is a common complaint about the Verizon UI. You can buy a new moisture indicator dot and replace it. I've heard of others doing it. I think you can buy them on Ebay, but I'm not sure, I've never had one turn red. -Jay
Re: red moisture sensor on a phone that hasn't gotten wed I'm a Vzw agent so I see alot of moisture damaged phones. If a phone gets really soaked the red dot is a deep red, like blood red. If thats the case, then usually other evidence is also present e.g., corrision at the charging port. Light pink with some white, to me at least, indicates slight exposure to moisture, liquid or otherwise. If your phone is slow and locks up now and again ( I've seen alot of V3s do that) , but is otherwise fully functional then I might suggest that you go to your local Vzw store (Large Direct sales store i.e, one that is owned by Vzw corp. and is a full service outlet) to have them "Flash" the phone with new firmware. Moisture damage aside, that should solve the problem.
Thank you so much for your help. I will take it to the store and hope that works. It's definitely not deep red. The only thing wrong with it is the slow response, otherwise it's perfect.
Re: red moisture sensor on a phone that hasn't gotten wed Yea, and the slow response is Verizon's fault anyways. They absolutely trashed this phone with their own firmware. The flash wont speed things up that much. My phone has never ever been near water and my dot is red, like blood red, but my dot on my battery is white...go figure.
that was supposed to say wet this whole time but i guess you all understood that. so weird. i didn't even realize that there was a sensor on the battery too. my sensor there is completely white. do you think getting a new phone would be better since the firmware update didn't seem to help? I kind of really hate this phone a lot. i'd like an enV but that's just way too much money.
The problem isn't the phone, its Verizon's software that they made Motorola put on the phone that slows it down. Verizon probably won't let you exchange it for another phone unless you've had that one for less than a month. -Jay
Re: red moisture sensor on a phone that hasn't gotten wed After the third switch in a month you can get another phone that THEY think is of equal or lesser value.
well i took it to a store and they said that there was nothing wrong with it except too many text messages. i've tried erasing them all though and it doesn't make a difference. of course the tech people at the verizon store decided to just go ahead and start erasing all my messages without asking me or telling me that's what they were doing. it was such horrible customer service. i asked what to do after i do that and it doesn't work (like it hasn't in the past) and i was told that i was just sol because of the sensor, which isn't my fault. it makes me want to switch to some other provider, although i know i'd be just as screwed. oh well. i guess it's either find something on ebay or just suck it up for another year.
My friend got his phone last august on a hot sunny day and it was pink a few hours later due to the humidity. They guy didn't even set the phone up yet. The camera didn't work at all and the reps at Verizon tried telling him he got it wet. I love Verizon service, but I just buy my own phones to avoid any contractual obligations... a small price to pay to be able to upgrade my phone when I want or to leave for another carrier.
You could flash it to the Alltel flash with little risk since the VZw flash is available, and since they've already voided your warranty. There is plenty of documentation and quite a few experts on the subject. I've been much happier with my phone since I've done it. I've also done my wife's phone, a bunch of friends, and one for my mom. They're all happier, and in a couple cases people who hated their phones actually love them now.
Where is the sensor on the battery? My sensor has also turned red and i want to find out if it has gotten wet ot not, im almost positve that it hasnt gotten wet. Ever.
Re: red moisture sensor on a phone that hasn't gotten wed Yea, but doesn't the Alltel flash work great??? CM
If you have a genuine Motorola battery it will be on the side facing the phone when it's installed (side where the gold contacts are). Aftermarket batteries usually don't have the dot. CM
If you put a different sticker on it and they replace the phone they will send it back to motorola (guess what there is a sticker on the inside) and if that sticker is found discolored which it probably isnt you will have a nice bill next month for the new phone they give you, from experience if you can get verizon to send it to motorola and they just find one sticker discolored but none of the others it wont void your warranty and you wont be charged i might reccomend taking your phone to a different VZW store their CS varies for example the one nearest to my house has great CS
