    Hi,
I'm new to this forum, so please bear with me.
I'm having trouble with, I'm not sure if its my phone or the cell tower.
About six months ago, we got rid of our land lines and went straight to cell phone service. We went with Cingular.
The reason for doing this, to give a little history, is that I am hearing impaired.
I had terrible problems with speech discrimmination on our land lines.
When I changed over to the cell phone service, I could hear great !!
    I bought a Motorola V550 cell phone.
After the 1st month, I was using the phone, and the call didn't drop off, but the voice on the other end just kept sounding further and further away until finally I couldn't hear it any longer. I went back to the Cingular store, and they replaced my phone. Up until now, I did not have any more problems.
Now all of a sudden the same problem is back. I did not damage the phone in any way. It's still like brand new. I first I got upset, thinking the phone is defective, again, ( the clerk at the store told me they would only replace the phone once. After that I would have to purchase a new one. I haven't quite figured this one out yet ), but then my husband told me he was having the same problem on his phone.
Being new to the cell phone system, I'm not sure if this is a common problem with the tower or if it is my phone.
Does anyone have any views on this ??

    Thanx for all your help.
    Regards,
    LauraB

If both of you are having the same problems it would be a coincidence if both of your phones were bad...I think it is a problem with Cingular's network.

Sad that Cingular will only replace a phone once if defective.

Ok, I think there is some confusion here. The store can exchange the phone only once, but you can call Cingular's Warranty Exchange toll free number and they will overnight you a replacement phone, you put your old phone in the box, and mail it back to them. There are unlimited warranty exchanges in the first year of ownership. If the phone fails between 12 months and 1 day, and 17 months and 29 days then you must buy a new phone outright. After 18 months you should qualify for a new upgrade. If you have had the phones for less than a year then I would call their warranty exchange department.

Thank You for all your help.
I will definetly keep the exchange by mail info close by.
I am going to try and stop by the store once again.
If Cingular can offer an exchange on line more than one time, I would think the store would have to honor the same policy.
I'll probably wait a few days to see if the problem clears up.
The part that bothered me the most was that my husband to seem to have similar problems only when he was talking to me on the cell. He used his phone afterwards to call someone else and did not experience any problems.

    Thank You
    Laura

Hey, I just noticed you're in South Daytona. My Grandfather & Uncle live in Port Orange, right behind Wal-Mart. Your local Corporate store is the store in front of the Port Orange Target at the intersection of Taylor Road & I-95. They may be able to do more than an independent dealer. The stores don't do warranty exchanges, but they do exchanges for the 30 day satisfaction guarantee. I've had no problems exchanging warranty replacements with them over the years. You see it is the manufacturer that is covering the costs of the warranty replacement, not Cingular. Cingular's warranty exchange department is just acting on your behalf with the manufacturer.

    Thanx Jay,

My father-in-law lives in Port Orange. Right behing the Target store plaza you are talking about. Small world.

My husband was born and raised in Daytona Beach.

I am from Rhode Island originally. Too cold for me !!!!
Been here since 1973. Not going back.

I know the corporate store you are talking about. I have been there for different reasons in the past.

I think I'm going to give it until Saturday and if the problem persists, I'll definetly swing by there.

    Thank You
    Laura

    Laura;

If you are having a hard time hearing try powercycling the phone (Some motorolas had a software bug which caused some problems). Also have them check the TTY feature on the phone (it's in the phone settings). It could be set up wrong. Good Luck.:D

    Good Morning Hillbilly,

I'm not sure I understand powercycle.

My phone is turned off every day, 5 days a week, while I'm at work.
I turn it back on when I leave work and head home.

I'm guessing this is not powercycling ???

    Yes this is powercycling.
Another thing to try is with your phone on, remove the battery & SIM card and wait 3+ minutes, then replace the SIM & Battery and see if this helps. Sometimes like a computer you need to do this to get the phone to recycle it's system plus it helps if you didn't get any OTA updates from Cingular, to now get them.
