I'm moving to Eau Claire for college next week and I was just curious what people thought were the best service providers for the area. When driving through there last weekend I noticed Sprint had excellent service and cingular had a few bars (Much improved from a year ago). I didn't get a chance to go into any buildings or make calls. Reception is by far the number one priority to me but if possible I'd like to get a phone that has some nice features such as bluetooth, extendable memory etc... Sprint is a nice option although you have to pay an arm and a leg for a decent phone from them. Anyone have any suggestions? I have read so many different things and most of them contradict each other. I can't seem to make up my mind. Thanks for the help!
I was just at UW-Eau Claire yesterday helping someone move into their dorm. I have Verizon Wireless and I was roaming onto Alltel with a SID of 318, but calling a non-existant phone number gave me an Alltel error and it said the SID was 240, which is the SID over here in Appleton. My friend that I was helping has Alltel and it kept showing up as a flashing triangle on his phone, even though it was Alltel. I think SID 318 is an old Western Wireless system that Alltel recently acquired, so his Alltel phone may still think its a WW system and not actually Alltel. But I had full signal while I was there on Alltel.
This list may help you sort it out. Both SIDS are listed but I don't know Wisconsin geography well enough. http://www.mountainwireless.com/sid2.shtml
Alright I figured out why my friends was showing the flashing triangle. Alltel PRLs have all the Alltel systems put in as FR (Free Roaming). It shows nothing when the SID you are on is the same as the home SID in your NAM setting, but if you go to another Alltel system, it shows the flashing triangle.
