I wonder how much of this is due to failed modding attempts? The V3 is the most modded phone in recent history, and in modding its easy to brick a phone if you don't know what you are doing. I think the V3 got a bad rap on this one... -Jay
I don't know, but I do know that they don't drop well. Everyone that I know who has one has replaced it due to damage.
I've never broken mine. Its been dropped many times. I just touch up the scratches with a black sharpie marker and keep on going... -Jay
Me, either. Mine has been horribly abused and though there's a little dust in the screen and I've had to replace the exterior screen glass twice I've never had the thing brick on me. I'd say Jay's right that a great deal of the 60% from 18% (how many is that exactly? I like real numbers, not percentages) are probably failed modding attempts. The buggiest phone I've ever used was my unbranded v620 and it never bricked on me and I've owned several Motorola models and none of them have ever bricked on me. In fact, "bricking" might not be software failure at all, it may be a bad screen. I've known several people who have had screens go bad that look like the software is dead but, when I replace the screen, viola, the phone is in perfect working order. And if you drop a phone and the screen breaks, that isn't the manufacturer's fault.
Well, let's break it down like this: 18% failure is 18 devices out of 100. 60% of 18 is 10.9. Let's round that to 11 to make things easy. That makes the true failure rate 7%, and the failed modding rate at 11%. You know if I wasn't good at modding and I knew I might risk bricking my phone I'd pay a little extra for some extended warranty insurance. -Jay
the original v3 was quiet a bit better than the ones they issue now. in every possible way. im not sure what theyve changed with parts or assembly or what, but its very apparent when people with old V3's say they love them and people with new ones say they hate them.
The new V3's have a lot more plastic pieces in them. We noticed that my original V3 was a lot heavier than the new models put out now. On the new ones the hinge is plastic, on mine its aluminum. -Jay
that is correct my v3c is all medal and the new ones are mainly plastic but the new ones do have a few more features so both have good points.
