I just started playing w/ BitPim yesterday, mainly because I wanted to delete the factory sample pix on the phone and BitPim was the tool for that. As for the transfer of pix and existing ringtones BitPim should work just fine. If you want to create your own ringtones it's easier to do it in Motorola Phone tools since it has a built in editor. If you use BitPim to transfer ringtones you'll need to edit down MP3s using a seperate program and then transfer them over to the phone using BitPim. Transferring pix using MPT is also very simple. I think the main reason people use BitPim is because it's free and it does have some editing functions for the phone that aren't accessable using MPT.

Everytime I try and send/get data I get an exception error. I'm currently scouring Sourceforge for any answers.

Ringtones go into a/motorola/shared/audio folder. (only accessible in MPT...if u try in bitpim, it will say 'this folder locked by provider) In MPT, you have full access to the 'audio' folder.

Pictures go into a/motorola/shared/picture folder (accessible in both MPT and Bitpim. You can delete stock pics out with Bitpim. U wont be able to see stock pics in MPT. I would add with MPT, delete with BitPim)

Whenever I do a Send Phone Data or Get Phone Data for calendar, contacts, etc.

I am able to save the pictures on my phone to my computer using the Filesystem manager. That is the main function that I want to use (actually my wife wants this).

Once again, thanks for the help.

No problem. Yea I use BitPim mainly for File System access. Pictures, startup/shutdown animations, etc. Mainly to back them up, etc. I use MPT to add my own pics, ringtones, backup contacts, calendars, etc.

Does syncing the V3m with WM11 or using BitPim to transfer pics change anything internally on the phone? For instance, I have my phone under warranty with Verizon so I don't want anything to void that warranty. Are any internal changes made that Verizon can detect and reject my warranty claim if I ever need to use it?(I'm not talking about seem edits....I'm not doing any of those.)

    Thanx

Nope, they sell the music essentials kit to get ur phone working with WMP10 or 11, so no worries there. Technically, BitPim could be considered hacking, but since its just pictures, they probably wouldnt even notice. Now, in BitPim, u can change the lcd image when the phone is open, u can load up ur own customer startup/shutdown animations/sounds, as well as extend the video camera length to a max of 4 minutes. If u made those changes and brought itt back, they would probably notice.

I don't plan on doing anything like that, I'll be keeping things simple for now. Just transferring pictures and loading mp3's.

You have been a big help again.

Correct me if I'm wrong but won't he have to seem the phone to enable the multimedia functions using MPT? I thought you had to seem edit the phone to show up as v3mM in order for the multimedia icon to appear on MPT or was he just planning on using BitPim to transfer pics and such?

Yea, you are absolutely correct Noah. But he has decided to just do some basics for now, with BitPim. He might do some MPT later on, but for now, he is keeping it legal ;)

I'm not using MPT. I am using WMP11 to transfer MP3's and I am using BitPim to transfer pics off my phone. I don't plan on putting pics on my phone.

I need to learn more about BitPim myself since I'm going to attempt to show my buddy how to use it w/ his Samsung SCH-A950 to get his pics from his phone w/o having to send it to himself via messaging. I think he uses the WMP10 for MP3 uploading since I've seen him use his phone for music.

I know you guys are talking about the bitpim stuff now but could you possibly try to help me sync to my laptop. I have read this entire thing and tried everything but nothing seems to work. After trying this stuff my computer recognizes my phone as a MPT device and cant find any drivers, I have been trying for days and this is starting to irritate me. Does anyone have any suggestions now??
    Thank you very much.

You should burn it. Verizon shouldnt even be selling it.

That is fine, it means the drivers are working correctly for your phone, otherwise it would not charge.

Hi, I'm kinda new to the site and I just got a Verizon Motorazr V3M phone the other day and I'm trying to figure out how to get the ringtones that I've downloaded to my PC onto the phone. I've been looking through here and I've already downloaded the BitPim and the drivers I need, I think. I've gotten my computer to recognize the phone as a modem and I hope that's right. I've set the BitPim to show the file system but after that I'm kinda lost. Any help would be appreciated.

    This should help.

You need to do seem edits on the phone using p2k and motorola phone tools to get what you need done.

    Read upon the link provided.

There is a more indepth way of doing it posted on the forum here but it has been so long and I am drunk....
