As a retail store manager, I can tell you first hand, that add on sales (the music kit in this case) is a major focus of retail sales. A great deal of pressure is applied to employees to sell add on products to drive up the total invoice amount. Of course, this drives up profit as well. I'll bet the store will take it back with no problem at all, as they got reportable credit for the add on sale at the time of purchase. Just be easy on the salesperson, they are expected to sell this kind of stuff, even if it is not very good product.
You are telling me people push products that they KNOW may not be very good products??? I wouldnt expect them to say, wellll, u can technically do it for free, and explain the hacks. BUT, I would expect Verizon to alter their product to MAKE it work. This is very shady by Verizon. If we can figure it out, I would think VZW would alter their product to include the correct usb drivers and sync fixes. As much as I didnt care for Verizon before, I have a newfound disrespect for how they by your own admission, sell products that they know have their share of problems just to make a few extra dollars at the expense of the customer. Hearing you say what you said really raises some eyebrows and brings the integrity of Verizon to question
Cyncyball, push products that they KNOW may not be very good products??? I have a newfound disrespect for how they by your own admission, sell products that they know have their share of problems just to make a few extra dollars at the expense of the customer Hearing you say what you said really raises some eyebrows and brings the integrity of Verizon to question Come on, no I do not (your interpretation) mean those things . Let me try this again. Some products are better than others, retail employees have sales goals with respect to prodcuts the company they work for offer and retail companies have liberal return policies. Really, I did not mean to open a can of worms here.
Cincyball, just want to thank you so much for your help and sending me to Marks forum. All is well. Took the Music Ess. back to Verizon. Went and bought just a plain USB. Everything is working beautifully. Have my songs downloaded on my phone. I am one happy camper. Again thanks so much to all who helped me in any way. Very much appreciated.
Hi, everyone. I just found this forum yesterday while trying to get my v3m to sync. Thought I'd sign up so I could ask a couple questions to see if I can get this to work. Maybe I can even help some others on here, I used to sell cell phones for a few years and know a bit about the tech behind how they work. Can anyone here tell me if it matters that I am running Windows 2000 pro? It seems like everyone in here is working with XP. I'd like to know if I am wasting my time trying to get the v3m to connect to W2K because like some of the other people here nothing I've tried has worked.
Cincyball Have to add that I also swapped out my phone for another Razr from Verizon. Maybe the phone had something to do with it. Has this ever happened before with this phone from Verizon?
I am so glad that I found this site. There is so many informative people on here. Thanks again everyone.
Well I installed mobile phone tools and I have windows media player. What other programs do you mean? It seems like the only thing that is holding the process up is I can't find the correct driver. I am trying to use what is said to be a windows 2000 driver but my computer says it is not the correct driver for my phone.
Yes, thats what i meant by not being able to use the programs. windows 2000 wont be able to run them with ur phone b/c i dont believe there is a driver for it. i will look around however.
Ok, here is something i helped a guy with regarding windows 2000. Not sure if it has any helpful info in it, but i know we discussed some windows 2000 stuff -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/58514-v3m-internet.html?highlight=windows+2000
What driver tool are u using to get the proper usb driver on windows 2000? Are u using DriverTool4.21a? Do u get an error when trying to connect your phone? Give some specifics so we can try and get u going. It seems like w2k might be okay.
Here are the things i have read and/or tried so far: http://www.wirelessforums.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=236 http://www.hacktherazr.com/guide.setup.usb.html http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/r...-razr-cdma-versions-v3c-v3m-6.html#post381379 http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/56114-v3m-usb-driver-help.html#post390689 If i plug in the phone while it's turned off the computer recognizes it as a Motorola USB Modem and uses a windows driver. But as soon as i get to a step that requires turning the phone on it asks for a specific driver for the phone, and it won't use any of the ones that came with my MPT cd or any of the others i've found online. seems like this is the one people are using USBMOT2000.INF
i just read some info on that Mark's page site and it looks like the phone uses a different driver to run in MTP mode. Everywhere i look it says Windows Media Player 10, which is only compatible with XP.... maybe I'm out of luck running 2000?
What I found out about running Windows 2000 is that you should be able to connect the phone and have Windows see it as a USB Modem (Using Drive Tools 4.21) but will not be able to Sync your phone because of the Windows Media Player issue. I am able to use my V3m as a modem to tetherr to the internet with W2k but that is about it. Which is OK because I do everything else on my XP machine.
Tre, make sure you arent using a usb port on the front, or on a hub. You need to use a usb port that is on the BACK of the computer tower. Try that.
Just a point of information, I am running my phone on a "D-Link" Powered USB 2.0 hub and have not had any issues. I am able to SEEM Edit, Sync with Windows Media Player, and use MPT. Although I do understand the concern about using Hubs, or front remote ports, I beleive the key is using a powered hub because of the charging issue (Power available to the port) I am not advocating the use of hubs, it is just the fact that all my USB ports on the rear of my machine are full, also very hard to access.
Yea, i never put much stock in it til last night trying to help my nieces phone. it was fine on the front for seem editing the phonne. for some reason, once i installed MPT, no matter WHAT i did, it said unauthorized charger. simple plug into the rear usb, worked liek a charm. on my laptop, i have a d-link usb 2.0 card, so i have found leeway as well. it seems he is having big probs, so last ditch effort to try rear usb...
I was a tad peeved when I got to work yesterday and went to update my media player to 10 or 11 only to find out that they aren't W2K compatable. So it looks like people running W2K are SOL when it comes to using Media Player to sync up and load music. Good thing my PC at laptop at home are all XP. I have my USB hooked up to the ports on the front of my computer and haven't had problems powering the phone. On the laptop I should plug into one of the USP ports on the back? I am so stoked about the DUN prospects for internet and email while camping. That was always my ultimate goal to use a cell phone to do it but I never could untill now. I didn't even know about that little trick till after I bought the phone and found this site.I'm liking this phone more and more, even if I do have to hack it to make to do what I want it to.
Laptop, I have mine set up for both rear usb port, and my usb 2.0 card. You have to set it up for each different usb port. Some front usb ports are okay. depends on the comp. anyways, make sure if u are using DUN that u disable evdo. and also dont go crazy downloading massive amounts of data as it could raise a red flag. just be smart about it
I plan on just using it to check email and check up on my pop up camper forum where I'm a moderator while camping. I seriously doubt I'll be downloading much of anything.
yea. thats fine then. some people were trying to use it to replace their internet service provider...not a good idea. using DUN without disabling evdo could get u into big trouble too. i use this method instead of wap on my phones browser b/c i find it much quicker. Wap with evdo isnt as fast as DUn with 1x, imo.
Yeah i tried it on my XP machine at work (naughty naughty!) and it workd just fine - transferred 3 songs. Then ran out of memory Anyway, thanks for everyone who helped, especially Cincyball, who seems to know everything and never tires of answering questions, even for newbies!
FYI: I followed all of the above mentioned advice and was able to connect my V3m in Tunes & Tones but could not get WMP10 to recognize that a device was connected. Pressing F5 to refresh the list would not help. I made several attempts but no success. Finally, I downloaded Windows Media Player 11 and everything worked fine. I am running Windows XP Pro. So, even though its been posted that WMP10 or 11 will work, that was not the case for me. Anyone still having trouble may want to download WMP11.
Yes, Go into settings: Set phone as v3cm Comm Port click Browse Select 'Motorola USB Modem' under Available Ports. Click OK Click OK ok on settigns screen Click View Checkmark View File System Left window pane clikc File System Icon Then expand the folder in the next window pane to the right Welcome to the File System
Ok, that seemed to work. Now, what functionality does BitPim have with the V3m.....Am I able to transfer pictures and ringtones?? Sorry for being a newbie. Thanks for the help btw. I am hesitant to try too much because I don't really know too much about this and I don't want to screw my phone up. I don't even know if that is possible with this program.
