    Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie and had a few questions about the RAZR V3 I recently purchased. Whenever I tried to go on to t-zones, I get a message stating "GPRS network is not available." I was told that I bought an "unbranded" razr and that is a reason why my phone shows me roaming. I was wondering if there was anything I can do?? Thanks for any help.

Check out the link in my signature for my reference base. What you are looking for is an unlocked T-Mobile flex for the V3. This will automatically put all of your phone's settings to match TMO's requirements. Either Motomodders or MotoX has one. If you're not up to the challenge of flexing then these sites will also have the settings to manually set up the network. Good Luck! Jay

Jay has good info. You're also right about the roaming, and don't worry about it. T-Mobile bought the former Cingular network in CA/NV, and depending on your phone and SIM card, you might appear to be roaming.

I have the same problem. I just bought an unbranded V3.
My USB cable doesnt seem to work for some reason, so I need to change the settings manually. I checked the sites you recommended, but could not find anything...
Can someone post the settings I need to change for T-MOBILE, in order to get the GPRS network to function.

    Thanks

I think it was ShoresGuy that gave me this link, but T-Mobile has a site where you put in your phone number and phone make/model, and T-Mobile automatically sends updates to your phone to work with the T-Mobile's GPRS network. I did this on my Motorola E398 and it worked great.

Rugged74, are you a new T-Mobile customer as well? Sometimes it takes a couple of days after you activate service before you can use the GPRS network properly.

Jay, are you sure the configurator is not sufficient to set an unbranded Razr? that is the first time i hear someone recommend a flex just to get T-Zones to work?

I had unbranded my V551 but the internet stopped working. I then installed a regular cingular MP to get everything working again. Afterwards I found an unbranded flex based on a cingular flex so the phone still appears unbranded, but everything works. I'm quite sure if you find a TMO MP or flex it will work. TMO doesn't manually configure every phone they sell - They have all their settings in the flex so all they have to do is hook it up to a computer for 5 minutes and its good to go. Sure you can configure it manually, I was just suggesting another option.

Jay, I had an unlocked but AT&T branded V600 that I used with my T-Mobile SIM. All I had to do was use the configurator mentioned and put in my phone no. and the choose the make & model no. of the phone and I got the settings OTA almost instantly. Wouldn't that be the safer way for someone who does not normally do flexing?

    Just asking....:)

I guess, I wasn't aware that these changes could be made OTA without the internet working to begin with. I have to admit that I'm biased towards flashing & flexing. To me that's easy. If I can hook up the phone to a computer and 5 minutes later have all the changes done - I like that.

I just looked, you can still save, but they changed their format from *.mp3 to *.asf I guess to stop people from doing this. You can always just obtain a full version of the song and cut it down to 30 sec yourself. There is software to do this free on the net. I use Wavepad, I'm not quite sure where I got it anymore though.

Hi and thanks for making this resource available. I have been using a mobile phone since they had a 5lb battery attached but only for the basic need of communication. I just upgraded to a razr v3 phone via Cingular and would like to use it for a bit more, i.e., a calendar (memory is not as good as it used to be). I do not see any calendar feature on the phone. How can I add the calendar and link my phone to my computer so I can sync up the outlook calendar?

    Thanks
    deweyd

The Razr has a calendar under tools called datebook.

Thanks Tony I found it. In other parts of this forum folks were talking about BitPim to syncronize phone to pc. I downloaded the latest BitPim but it doen't list the V3 as a supported phone. Is there another option?
    Thanks again

BitPM is for the CDMA models. Being a Cingular customer you have a GSM model. You need P2K Commander or Motorola's MPT to do what you want.

Thanks Jay - I need to read up more on the subject so I know the difference between GSM and CDMA and whatever else there is out there. I loaded MPT and am able to sync my calendar with Outlook. I am a happy camper.

Most people edit MP3's to 30 seconds for use as ringtones. You can use voicenotes as ringtones (I.E. recording from the radio), but you have to hack the phone to allow it. Just chop some of your MP3's.

    Re: RAZR V3 Flex?

Another Newbie here. My BF just bought a RAZR V3 that seems to be British in program origin. And the GPRS is non functional. I'm afraid to fool around with it too much and don't know (even by readying all the stuff above) what flex is and what I need to do to get the GPRS working, get him out of roam and back into the AT&T network with out wiping out his SIM and ticking him even more. I'm about ready to give it a chuck across the fence.

    Any help?

    Re: RAZR V3 Flex?

You can flex it, but the following settings should get you working without the pain of setting up the flex software & drivers.

    Support | AT&T, formerly Cingular

    Hi Jay,
Thanks very much! That got the MediaNet accessible, and I downloaded the ringtone he wanted. Added it to the requested listing in his address book (phone, not SIM) but it still won't play when that person calls, just the default ring...so I guess I still have some work to do to get this right.

Is it true that he is also running in roam with roam charges due?

No, the phone will think its roaming, but ignore that roaming icon if you are on a nationwide plan. Are you using Bluetooth? Only default ringtones can be used with Bluetooth. You cannot use custom ringtones with BT.

Jay, thanks a bunch for working with me on this. The BF finally dragged me kicking & screaming with him to the AT&T store where we were told "you really shouldn't buy foreign phones"..and recommended he either return it or call the AT&T IT dept and go step-by-step through each part of the phone and try to sync it to U.S. defaults. Needless to say it was back in the box in record time and back to the seller. (after what I had already installed was removed).

But I was having fun while it lasted, and great to have a resource to help!
    Thanks again and Happy Holidays.

I don't think the phone being British would have stopped me, but then again I would have formatted the phone and put a fresh copy of an American OS on the phone, but that gets complicated if you don't know what you are doing.
