What can I do with a motorola razor that gives me an "enter subsidy code" message upon powering up? Got it from a friend and would like to give it to a friend. Can anyone help?

The phone is locked to its original carrier. Either call the carrier it's locked to and ask for the subsidy code or search the web for RAZR unlocking services (though there may be a cost involved with the latter).

No one on this site has the specific subsidy code you need.

The handset has a subsidy lock. If the person you got it from still has service with the company the phone came from you can ask them to get the subsidy code for you. Otherwise as Mike said you can send it to a service that specializes in unlocking phones or find a website that can get the code for you or unlock by other means.

Oh, BTW, the Motorola phone is a Razr (no O.) Norelco, Remington, Gillette and Schick make razors to shave your face or other places. :)

Have you tried the basics? All zeros, usually 6. 123456 etc?

Good recipe for permanently locking your phone. There's a difference between a subsidy code and phone security code. They're both different. Subsidy code is unique to each phone and is based on the IMEI. Security code is different for different brands of phones. Nokia default is 12345. Motorola is 000000. Do not confuse the security code with the subsidy unlock code!

Yes. With Motorola phones entering the code wrong 5 times will permanently lock the phone to the carrier. Even if you do get the correct subsidy code afterward it will not work.

Motorola phones does not got hard locked by the wrong codes. If you enter too many wrong codes, you just have to let the phone ON at these errors message and after 40 minutes to 12 hours, the message " Enter Subsidy Code" will appear again. You can enter the correct unlock code and see it works.

Trust me. As a person who had a phone hard locked, it does happen. It happened to my Motorola A845. I tried what you described, and it did not work. I had to unlock it with a USB cable.

Dont worry! I know exactly what to do. Just yesterday I unlocked mine. If it's AT&T Just take out your battery look on it you'll you something write IMEI: ###########. With 15 digits tell the persons the 15 numbers and he will give you the code. :) (also here is my code REMOVED) Hope I helped in time:p Also YOU WILL GOING HAVE TO CALL AT&T

I had to remove your code. The codes are unique to each individual phone. If someone entered the code you received into their phone, they're one more step closer to being hard locked. In my experience, the only ones that give reliable unlock codes for Motorolas via IMEI#'s are the carriers themselves. Some third party companies say they can provide the unlock code for a Motorola phone, but in most instances they do not work.

You can also key the code *#06# with or without a SIM installed and it will reveal the IMEI.
