I have an old ATT plan from before the change over to Cingular and now to the new att. I don’t want to change the plan because no one, including att, will give me as good a deal as I am getting now on my old plan. I bought a new unlocked razr from ebay because I wanted a new phone. The razr works great except I found that every time that I turn it off and power it back on it sends some sort of data message to a number that is showing up on my bill as 453-453. There is no indication that this message is being sent nor is there any record on my phone that anything was sent. I called att, Motorola and searched the net and no one could give me a definitive answer as to what is going on or how to stop it. The most plausible explanation I could find on the net is that the phone is a t-mobile phone, which I found out that it is, and that this message is being transmitted to update T-mobiles My Favs. This message is free for T-mobile but since I am not on their system I am being charged for a text message. Is there any one who can tell me how to stop the data transmission? RogerP
The only thing I can think of is to have the phone flashed with a Cingular/ATT ROM. Then it will no longer have the TMO software on the phone. Otherwise, if you don't use text messaging, take out all of the text/mms settings so it can't send the message. -Jay
Thanks Jay. This phone is apparently a Euro model. I called an authorized Motorola dealer in my area and he told me that he had two people with this problem come to him also with Euro phones and when he tried to flash them it bricked them. I thought of the second option that you suggested, but I kind of wanted to keep the text option. I think that I may be SOL. They dealer that I bought it from won’t return any of my emails. I guess that is the chance you take when buying from ebay.
It shouldn't make a difference if its a euro model, since the standard V3 is quadband world phone. The other option is to leave the firmware alone and try putting just a Cingular flex on the phone. -Jay
Jay, Is it possible or advisable that I perform a flash or flex? If so, can you point me in the right direction where I can obtain instructions/software for this? Roger
It depends, flashing and flexing are more advanced modding techniques. Remember that you can render your phone unusable if you mess up. If you are still considering going ahead a good start is to read the modding thread linked in my signature. Just click on the Motorola logo. -Jay
Hey guys, I know it's an old thread ... Just curious - Roger, did you figure out how to stop that SMS from being sent to the 453 number? I just discovered today that I'm billed for tens of messages that I didn't send. I bought my V3 on eBay as well. I'm an AT&T subscribed and I know nothing about modding. Thanks in advance.
