I'm looking to switch soon to T-Mobile prepaid and am looking for a good GSM quad band phone I can use in both rural USA and Europe. I was considering the RAZR but now I'm wondering about the KRZR. Which is the better, and which version of which is better? I'm not looking to spend big bucks bu I do want a good phone!

The KRZR is a better phone, IMHO, though it will be more expensive than the RAZR. You might try getting a used v600 which has pretty much the same functionality as the original RAZR but will probably be $50 or less on eBay.

Just make sure it's T-Mobile branded or unlocked.

I would choose the KRZR over the standard V3, but I think the V3xx is a better phone than the KRZR. I don't think TMO caries the V3xx though.

The KRZR is a solid little phone, reminds of the v60 series, it just feels solid in your hands...but, after using different models of the RAZR, one gets used to that nice big screen, so i find myself using my V3X alot more than my tiny KRZR, for now i think i'll just stick to the V3 series until the next Moto with a big screen is released and i'm going to sell my black KRZR and might get the Moto MAXX V6.

So to answer your question, i prefer the RAZR over the KRZR for now.

    KRZR vs RAZR

    Jay, the V3xx is a triband (850/1800/1900) phone & so wouldn't meet the OP's requirement. :)

Oh, that's right. I forgot. I wonder why Motorola went to a triband instead of a quad?

"Sleeker and Shinier" is how I choose my phones also - NOT :lmao:

With my minimal experience with both phones, seems like the RAZR would better suit the OP's requirements.

I haven't had a whole lot of experience with the KRZR, but I was using a friends the other night to bluetooth some rings, and I certainly didn't like the way it felt. It was just too small.

I didn't have a whole lot of time to play around with it, but I definitely prefer my V3xx over it from what I've experienced.

My friend also played around with my phone for awhile, and he was completely impressed with my phone, he was ready to go trade his Krzr in right then and there. :p

Most of you indicate the KRZR is better that the RAZR, though some think the KTZR is too small. What makes the KRZR better than the RAZR? And what is the difference between tri and quad bands?

I'd be using this phone in the USA and in Lithuania. Would tri or quad band make a difference? Which would get better rural reception?

    Thanks!

I agree that the KRZR is small in comparison to the RAZR. I decided to get the KRZR because I wanted to get back into the Motorol game and after seeing the newest RAZR, I think it's the VX or V3X I figured that sooner or later that new GSM model would come out in the CDMA format and then I would get a new RAZR. Until then, I would get back into the motorola game with the KRZR. The KRZR is not a bad phone at all. It may be small, but I think me using it with the small screen and slim body will make me appreciate more when the newest RAZR comes out for CDMA. I was thinking of getting that slide RAZR - the RIZR, when and if it came out on CDMA. Either way, I will have made my way back into the Motorola Game and trained myself with the KRZR.

I had the LG8300, good phone, but just not the Motorola I've grown accustomed to. Sonow at least I've got my Motorola back.

Oh yeah, and then there's the color. I got that Fire Red KRZR. I originally got the Black/Gray one but I gave that to my husband when the Fire color came out and got that. I know that if Verizon had the RAZR in that Fire color right now, I would get it, but they don't. Maybe when the new phone comes out the new color will come out too.

lol....lost you there for a minute Beat...
Glad to hear you like you KRAZR, i like mine too. ;)

BTW, the newest Razr is called the v3xx, not to be confused with the Razr v3x which is made for the European market.

I can not answer what makes the KRZR better than the RAZR but I will try to answer your other questions.

A triband US phone will work on 850/1800/1900 Mhz frequency.
A triband Eurasian phone will work on 900/1800/1900

A quad band phone is 850/900/1800/1900

The frequencies used in the US are 850 & 1900
From this site it looks like the frquencies used in Lithuania are 900 and 1800.

So in order for a phone to work well in both the US and Lithuania you need a quad band phone.

In any case you will be better off with a quad band phone if you travel.

    I hope this helps. :)

The wife upgraded her phone recently from a first gen RAZR to the KRAZR. She likes it a whole lot better. From what I've seen of the phone, it's far more responsive and it's feature set (such as 2MP camera) is superior. Our experience is with Cingular though so I'm not sure how relevant our opinion is.

Hey Tony E!!! I was totally out of commission for a bit there. I actually had the Motorola Blues!! :loony: I know that sounds bad, but its true. I didn't know what to do until i broke down and bought a KRZR and i loved it. A week later the Fire KRZR came out and i made a deal with my husband. His upgrade at the discount price was up and i told him if you let me get the KRZR Fire now with your upgrade price, then in October i will let you use my $100 discount for my new every 2 so you can get a new phone since there wasn't a phone he liked out now. Plus he gets my free black/gray KRZR. It took some coaking :browani: :censored:but he gave in. Hell, he got a free phone for the deal!! He was using my old Motorola E815 that was an insurance replacement from Asurion. I got him a Body glove case and he was in business. He loves the KRZR although his first complaint was that it was small as :censored: . I told him just use it, it's free. He loves the phone now. He misses the old menu of the E815 but he got used to it.

I love this phone. I'll just wait until the Razr V3xx comes out. Hopefully they offer it in a funky color like the Fire Krzr. I tell you the red mirror is just the sickest thing i've seen on a phone i love it!! Plus, bigger than that, I'm back in the Motorola game baby!!! :loony: :p I gues you can tell, I'm just a little nuts!!

    Good speaking to you.

The 3G CDMA version of the V3 was already out I thought. Isn't it the V3m?

Tony E! Yeah, I know, I'm a piece of work for sure! :loony:

I thought about that too (another phone i like better thing). If, when my new every 2 comes up in October and there is nothing my husband wants, i told him i give him until December and then if he has not picked something then it goes back to me. I'm just looking for the new Razr to come out by then and i know when it does he'll want one and i'll have to honor my agreement  . I'll just buy my phone. It'll be okay. I have a few to sell anyhow so it'll work out.
