I went and spoke to a salesperson at my local Cingular store, and she told me that it would be $225 for a RAZR on a one year contract. Does that sound right? I only want to do a one year contract because I am a college student, and I don't know if I will be doing study abroad or something next year. Perhaps that I am just naive, but I expect the one to be maybe $50 more expensive on a one year contract, that is how T-Mobile is. Is there any way to negotiate on the price with them? Thanks!

You could buy it unlocked for less. Sites like myworldphone.com sell it for less than Cingular is willing to; plus, you won't even have to sign a contract at all, and you can use the phone overseas, if or when you study abroad.

That is actually a really good price. Thanks so much!

Would I be able to not sign a contract with Cingular if I don't get a phone from them? Would I be able to be on the same rate plan as people who are on contract, but just month to month? How would I sign up for that? Thanks!

If you bring your own equipment, then you can do what they call "non-commitment" (i.e., no contract). Most reps will play dumb to the idea, because they do not make any commission off of these plans, but you can go month-to-month. And, yes, there is a catch; you lose what they call "promotional features." I don't know what the current promotional features are, but I am sure someone on here can shed some light. Or if you are worried, just sign a one-year contract.

Haha. I went by the Cingular booth at the mall today and asked the sales rep how much a Razr would be on a one year contract just for fun to see if I would get the same answer. He said, "$420." I was like, what? He said, "If you get a phone on a one year contract then you have to pay the full retail price of the phone." What BS is that? Ugh, Cingular drives me insane and I'm not even their customer. I'm going back down to the mall to sign up for a T-Mobile 30 day trial. Gotta love California consumer laws!

I have cingular. this is what i have learned so far. Prices will vary from a Cingualr store, an independent retailer and the cingular website.

Shop around for the cheapest razr you can find. Try places like walmart, cingualr stores and also check cingular.com. In order to get promotional packages if you buy a rarz on ebay just take the free phone package from cingular and put your sim card in your razr. make sure if you buy from ebay that it is for the usa and not just abroad. I dont know if all razr's are quad band. when you look on ebay make sure your search is for UNLOCKED CINGULAR . ALSO, i have been to two different cingualr stores and they had different prices. shop! I bet you can find one for 99 bucks.

then make sure your phone is a quad band in case you do study abroud. you can put a foriegn sim card in your phone next year ( much cheaper than paying international rates) and in some countries all incoming calls are free. you have a year to research that part but i suggest you get a quad band phone so you can use it overseas.

Just wanna point out, that's complete bs, full retail on a Razr V3 (not iTunes not sure what it retails for) is around 280, I know I bought mine full retail for use with prepay service a while back before I got some things cleared up and was able to do a credit based contract. (edit after posting due to thinking) The store in the mall is probably a agent, while the price still seems way high for a razr (including the itunes version) it's probably their standard markup. I bought my bluetooth headset from a T-mobile agent, nearly 40 dollars cheaper than cingular corporate. Shop around is right on this one.
