The catch to this wonderfull price is that you have to be a brand new customer of cingular. If you are looking to do your upgrade or migrate from at&t you are :censored: out of luck.

Actually there is no catch, that's the way it usually is.

at Best Buy it does have to be a new activation for that price. Online stores it doesn't matter.

Exactly, that's why my original post says "at Best Buy"...

Well, I took advantage of that deal. Good price. Cool phone (typical moto interface). But, I'm not all that impressed w/ Cingular or the reception I'm getting. Its nice they allow 30-day trial...on the other hand, based on the CS comments I'm reading, it might take 30 months to return it and unscramble my billing!

But doesn't Amazon have some catches, like paying them money if you break your contract early and some other stuff, because their pricing on cellphones often seems to good to be true.

Amazon still gives you a 30 day return period so as long as he's within that time frame he should be ok.

here's their policy: You may return most items sold by Amazoncom within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping cost if the return is a result of our error.

captain, if you have the older 32k sim inside that phone that is the main reason why your service with cingular sucks you need the orange 64k to get both at&t and cingular towers. If you have that 64k and you're still having problems it may be the phone. The only problem with returning the phone to best buy is that they sometimes make you pay a restocking fee. Good Luck!

  10. ^^^ i dont think thats right bc both my dad's cingular phone, my step mom's cingular phone, and my friend's gsm activated cell phone will pick up both signals in the home area with a 32 k sim card.

they may roam into them but that card wasn't made for the blue network. The new one is made for both. So say if a blue tower hasn't been completely pulled over to the orange network the 32ks may roam into them but they are not searching for them like the 64k will. If your reception is fine in your area then you don't need to worry about it.

thanks Tony, so there are no catches that you have to pay Amazon if you break your contract early or something like this?? Like some of the indirect dealers(I'm sure you're aware of some of their policies).

But what happens after the 30 days, and before the 1 or 2 year contract end date?

Even the indirects will give you the 30 day return, as that is what Cingular gives you.

Oh yes definitely, that was just their return policy, and that's a good point you bring up Andy, i bet that in the fine print somewhere there is something that will get you to pay them on top of paying your provider if you break your contract.

I've seen ads that are giving away the Razr for free. There was one on yahoo and when I clicked on it, it said $50 instant rebate and a $200 MIR.

Either way, it's a good price since someone I know purchased it when it came out for $599 with a 2 yr CSA.

that is insane for a phone that cingular didn't even have insurance options on if I'm not mistaken.

How do you get the 64k sim card? As a long-time VZW/Sprint user, this whole sim thing isn't too familiar to me! I'll probably return it either way, it was just a little experiment! But, thanks for the info...

Well, truth is I was too lazy to open it up. :O It is a 64k sim so I guess I just don't like the sound quality I'm getting. I'm living in a corp. apt. for now; that's the only place I've really used it. I'd carry it around more but, of course, there's no case/holster that comes with and everyone is out of stock. I may just return it cause I'm tired of fooling w/ new phones! :(
