Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

I have Cingular service and just upgraded to the Razr v3r. The motorola phone tools are kickin my butt. I cant even get past the phone setup screen. I launch MPT program, I get to the phone setup wizard, then I plug the cord into the phone then the other end of the cord to the computer. Thats it, it doesn't do anything else. No error screen or progress of any kind. Can someone help me? Thanks

The V3r may not be compatible with any other version of MPT than the newest one. Check your version.

As jay said, update to 4.36. If it supports your phone, it will have the correct drivers.

I actually have a v3m, and I've read all about how to get ringtones and whatnot setup for it. But a buddy of mine is wondering how he could get his v3 setup to get his own ringtones.

Again, he has a V3 and is with T-Mobil. Is it as simple as getting MPT setup on his computer? Or does T-mobil's v3's also need some sort of seem editing?

Can't quite find a straight answer using the search function.

I have a Motorola RAZR V3 with T-Mobile and as long as you download the most up-to-date version of MPT you should be fine. I have been able to sync my V3 and MPT using a USB-to-mini-USB cable with no problems.

You friend should check for updates when he opens MPT.

After spending most of the day on the phone with the folks at Motorola, I am my wits end ... I have seen all of the help you have offered to others. I only hope I am so lucky.

I have a V3 with service from Cingular (and an AT&T Wireless card inside) and I cannot for the life of me get MPT to work. The Motorola USB modem shows up in device manager and it will charge when plugged in to the back of the comp. However, it always stops after "Your phone is being installed ..." and goes to the "Can not detect your phone" error message. The people at Motorola had me going in circles and I have for case IDs than I know what to do with.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

What always helps for me is to leave the USB cable unplugged until after you tell it to look for the phone. It never finds my V3 if it is plugged in when the software starts.

I've tried that. I've tried every variation of that: phone plugged in and launch tools; launch tools then plug phone in; launch tools then plug phone and then plug in USB to back of comp; etc ...

    Still no go.

I've had this problem as well. I have a new v3i with Cingular. It worked just fine for the last several days. Ever since I used the Bluetooth instead of the USB cable, I can't connect with the phone via my laptop with the USB cable but for some reason I can still connect via Bluetooth.

I've tried it with the Bluetooth on my laptop disabled. No go.

All I get on the MPT software is "Initializing...Please wait...."

Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

Update from my post last night:

I'm still trying to figure out just what the heck I did, but I seem to have USB connectivity and the sync function in both USB and Bluetooth is back (until such time I see smoke coming out of either my phone or computer....we'll see:D).

I'm not sure if all the steps I took are necessary, but here's what I did:

    1. Download and install the new drivertool from BVRP forums: http://www.bvrpforums.com/motorola/viewtopic.php?t=2934

(This is the company that makes MPT)

    2. This post on the BVRP forum was helpful in my situation: http://www.bvrpforums.com/motorola/viewtopic.php?t=31

Item #4- opened up MPT, go to Menus -> General Setup and it prompted me to pick which Motorola modem to install. I picked "Motorola USB Modem" and installed it on the COM ports when asked.

And that "Please wait....Initializing" message I was getting and "Mobile Not Connected" warning ballooon have since resolved.

For now, at least. I'm going to play around with it again both via USB and Bluetooth to be sure I've got a more robust connection.

Ain't modern tech great. Hmmmph. And to think there was a time when I did my job just fine without a cell phone.

Are you saying that you are going to try and charge people for a ringtone? I bet that in 5 minutes, I could have my own copy of Moonlight Haze, in mp3 format, on my phone, for FREE.

Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

I just got an unlocked Razr V3 and I use it with my current Cingular service.

My problem is that when I go to check my voicemail I can't delete or save messages while using this new phone. It seems that it will not accept any new key presses after I have dialed. I also tried to see if I could get the phone to work with anything else that would use key presses after dialing and it was a no go.

Is there any way that I could modify the phone or change a setting to get it register key presses after I have dialed a number?
When I press a number I get an Entering: with the options to Delete or Store.

If you would need to know any other information about this phone I will try to provide it.

    Thanks for any help.

Try checking this setting: Settings/Initial Setup/DTMF: I am guessing that this is set to OFF right now. Change the setting to LONG and you shouldn't have any more problems.

You need your internet and text settings setup for use with TMO. Check the T-Mobile forum, I believe there is a sticky thread with the info you need.

Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

A MonsterPack (MP) is the combination of firmware (The phone's OS) and a flex (The phone's custom settings for your carrier) Generally you won't need to install a MP unless you've severely screwed up your phone and you want to reset it back to factory settings. You also need to watch on MP's because they can lock an unlocked phone if you install the wrong one, or worse lock the phone to a carrier you don't use. My suggestion is if you have an older version of your phone to just upgrade the firmware and leave your flex alone.

Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

Okay please forgive me if i ask a lot of questions or just sound plain dumb.

I am currently in kuwait for a year. I purchased a v3i (non-itunes - i guess they dont have it out here). great with the exception of the battery life (i barely get 30 hours of use if im using blue tooth, or just making general phone calls) otherwise, a good phone. connects well with my h500 headset, plays great music and all that good jazz. thing is i purchased another phone to send home (in the US) to my friend to use who has cingular, mainly cause she is prone to dropping her phone, or leaving it on the top of her car, pulling off to only watch it fly and smash to pieces on the side of the road - thus she keeps losing all of her ringtones. so i bought this one b/c on my phone i can store all my ring tones to my trans card and use them directly from it without them having to be on my phone. but the phone i bought her will not allow me to do that. it makes it so that the ringtones have to be on the phone to work as different ring styles.

so of course i was slightly pissed. now its almost 2 pm and i've been researching various forums all morning, and now im only assuming that i need a "seem edit" to fix this problem for her phone. if so, where do i find it??

now the major part of my issue. i've been trying to countlessly connect my phone to my computer to see if i can even attempt to do this. i read that i need motorola phone tools, and like three other programs to do this. well each time i hooked my phone up to the cord it finds the phone, but as soon as the "usb" driver is installed i go to look for the phone via my "device list" and i dont see it there (but the installation says device installation complete).
What am i doing wrong, and where can i find step by step installation instructions or get them to do this so i can fix her phone.

    so that's the first part.
second part.. she has cingular mobile. i'm also planning on switchin to cingular once i return home. the phones here i do believe are all unlocked non-branded (but just in case how do i tell - im only assuming this b/c there is no particular design that shows up when i cut the phone on, there is no certain company branded into the phone, just a plain ole v3i) and since most phones here are somewhat expensive (or cheap depending on what you use) i hope i am safe in assuming most phones purchased over seas are unlocked.

-- sorry i went off on a whole 'nother level, but i can also assume that i need to set the phone up to cingular standards for her to use once i mail it to her. am i correct in my thinking?? if so, how do i go about doing that.

any quick help would be great, i've got about a week or so to get this done b4 i promised her i'd mail off the phone so any fast and great detailed information would be great.

I know my V3 has the latest software on it, but I have it on loan to a friend so I am unable to double check what version it has. You can check your phone's current software version by looking at Settings/Phone Status/Other Information/SW Version. It is unadvisable to change your phone's software unless you are having problems with your current software.

What model phone did you purchase for her? We need to know that to determine if seem editing will do what you want. Info on seem editing can be found by reading my modding thread, linked in my signature.

The drivers that Windows installs are not all of the drivers you need. Members of www.motomodders.net can download them for free from the downloads section of that website. Otherwise the drivers will also come with the purchase of MPT.

If you purchased the phone without service overseas then it is most likely not locked. If you purchased it with service it might be. You may need to contact an unlocking service if it does not work with a Cingular SIM when you return. You may have to manually set up the internet and text messaging settings. These are available in the Cingular forum.

Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress.

Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

i bought her another v3i non-itunes version. i brought the phone with me to work today, hoping i might be able to get some work done on it. as i'd like to get this done b4 the end of next week, so i can get it off in the mail.

exactly... well almost like mine, with the exception of this whole ring tone thing. and her words are on the opposite side of mine (select / back). her bluetooth settings only allow for 60 seconds of discovery, while mine has the options for always discoverable, 60 seconds, or never.

neither phone has a missed call log.

im pretty sure that the phones out here are all unlocked. a lot of americans here buy them and take them back home.

can i set up the cingular service here, as i know if i send her the directions she'll be just as lost. also she wont have the "tools needed" to change anything. she's not very good with computers, as it took me months to finally help her understand her email account i set up.

i think i got all the drivers required the other day, i brought in my cord this mornig so i can check to see with my phone, and play with her phone.

how will i know if i have all the correct drivers installed? i went to the "hacktherazr" website and downloaded the MSU, and p2kseem editor, p2k commander, p2k tools, driver tools, and a couple of other tools i attached a pic of the list of stuff i downloaded yesterday. i think the MPT (motorola phone tools if im thinking right) i have is the most up to date one.

the phone charges when i hook it up to my computer, with no problem i can start MPT and it comes up with the phone pic and then gets the front screen of my phone. the device manager comes up with motorola usb in the modems section. wasn't sure if it should have been by it self.

so if anyone is awake at this hour (stateside or elsewise) and can tell me if im headed in the right direction i'd be very greatful for you.

question for you Jay, or anyone... can i back up my phone (the one that does what i want it to do) and then upload it onto her phone? will that work?? seems a whole lot easier than using various programs to get one phone to do what the other will do.

    Hi.

I have a (really horrible) Motorola V3 and service with Cingular (even more horrible).

Last year, I purchased Motorola Phone Tools 4.0, installed it, and it worked perfectly until yesterday. Now, when I try to connect, I get a message saying, "Initializing...Please Wait." I updated the software so now I am up to version 4.3.6 and I also downloaded and reinstalled the modem driver, so everything is current and up-to-date. I also randomly receive a message saying that it doesn't recognize my phone (which makes no sense considering it a) has the driver installed and b) charges).

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I'm stuck.

    Thanks!

    Hilary
