Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

    hola

I recently upgraded to a razr V3 through t-mobile. It just arrived today and I charged the battery and then inserted my sim card and it still says "insert sim"

The manual isnt clear at all which way the sim card is supposed to go, but I'm pretty sure I have it in right. I thought part of the problem was that before I owned a sidekick and I only had the data plan, and since the v3 can't support that I thought that may cause the problem. I went into tmobile and changed the phone under mytmobile and changed my plan. It still won't work and the website says that the new plan wont be activated until the next billing period.

So now either there's something wrong with my sim card, or I just can't use the v3 until the next billing period starts...

    Any ideas?

Also the sim card is really difficult to get out...any tips? I've gotten it in and out before but it's pretty stubbornly stuck right now...

I thought the SIM card will only fit one way in a V3. Metal side down, and notched end in first.

    Razr v3 GSM Cons

I'm considering purchasing a Razr v3 GSM unlocked phone to work with either T-Mobil or Cingular (haven't decided on the plan)
    1) any cons about the phone?
    2) any cons about using the phone with either carrier?
    Any info would be appreciated:)

I took out the battery and SIM card - the result is that the phone just won't switch on, now. Time to replace the battery?

Before I did that I'd plug the phone into the charger overnight. I've got a feeling that you've got more serious problems than a dead battery though.

Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

Hello everyone. I am a Cingular customer. My current phone is a Motorola v551. The first one I had broke (phone wouldn't accept a charge), and the second is starting to fail. The speaker in the earpiece is very quiet, even though the volume is set to the max. I have to use speakerphone to be able to hear.

I'm considering a Razr as my next phone. A lot of people bash this phone, but I've used a few of my friends', and it works much better than my current phone (duh).

I don't need a new contract, so I'm considering buying my phone from eBay. Any objections to this?

My next dillema is whether to buy an unlocked or Cingular-branded phone. If I buy a Cingular phone, I'd just need to pop in my SIM and I'd be golden, correct? Will I be able to use text messaging/voicemail/internet features with the unlocked/unbranded phone? I'm somewhat technology-savy (I hacked my Xbox years ago :p ), so hacks/software edits aren't out of the question.

    Thanks for any input!

If you don't plan on leaving Cingular buying a handset locked to Cingular will be cheaper. A cingular branded phone that is unlocked would be the next step, but an unbranded & unlocked phone may not have all features working without you configuring them manually. Personally I would just buy a locked handset and save some cash.

Can you move it via Bluetooth OBEX? This would be the easiest if you can do it.

All V3's have bluetooth. If you are trying to move from one v3 to another (As I understand it) try going phone - phone with bluetooth, and don't bother with a computer or software.
Let me know if this doesn't work.

well the ringtone Moonlight haze is a default tone and the default tone anf the phone doesnt let the deafult tone to be transferred by normal method. I checked so if you any other way in mind then let me know

I bought an unlocked non itunes v3i from ebay and I am a cingular customer in florida. I just found out that my internet and messaging features do not work as it not a cingular branded phone and cingular told me that they did not recognize the ID as a razor v3i. Is there a way to modify the phone so I can get it work with the cingular network for intenet and multimedia messaging? If so please advise. Many thanks for your help.

You will have to manually configure the phone for these services. The settings should be on Cingular's website.

Re: RAZR ( GSM versions v3 & v3i ) post your questions here.

    Good morning all.
I'm new here and I've looked EVERYWHERE for this info.
Recently I purchased a moto razr v3 unlocked phone. I have UNICEL as
my carrier. I've owned 4 razrs so I am pretty familiar with the phone.
My own issue seems to be the fact that it's unlocked. I have received all
of my browser updates from UNICEL. My WAP works fine, txt, calls, etc.. all of that is fine. My problem is MMS. I cannot send a text to an email address
at ALL. It tells me it cannont be sent blah blah blah. This is something I do all the time with my other razr. Does anyone have any suggestions??? I love my new phone (it's pink) but being able to send to an email address from my phone is very important to me.

How do I set my RAZR V3 to NOT accept any text messages?

I purchae my RAZR about 3 months ago and at the time I purchased it I asked that t-mobile turn off the text messaging service. I don't want it or need it and don't want to be charged for the stray text messages that I may receive and already have. They told me all I would have to do is call customer service and they would turn it off. Well, "customer service" tells me they can't turn off that feature. It sounded more like they didn't want to. I know there must be a setting on the phone to keep it from downloading ALL text messages from t-mobile's service center. Can anyone tell me where that setting is on the RAZR?

I don't know of a setting in the phone, unless you actually deleted the MMS settings, then the phone would be unable to send & receive messages. I'm on Cingular and from time to time I have asked customer service to turn off text messages and they have done it without question. I woul try calling customer service back and asking someone else. Not many people probably request to trun off messages so that rep may not have known how to do it.

    Really dumb question, probably

I have an old Cingular silver V3 and I'd like to activate field test mode so I can
map out cell site coverages and such. However, no matter how I try to enter the
073887 code, I can't get the phone to do anything.

Ok, here's the dumb part of the question: do I need to edit a SEEM to activate the
mode inside the phone before the code works? XLR8's code map shows 2 bits
in a SEEM that would suggest this.

    Thanks, Mike

On my V3 I had to enable a few seems, then I edited the menu structure so it shows up on the settings menu w/o having to enter the darn codes.
The short answer is yes, you have to enable it to work with the codes first. Cingular disables that.

Re: How do I set my RAZR V3 to NOT accept any text messages?

    Thanks Jay,

I have called and talked to several different "customer service" reps at t-mobile and all of them tell me the same thing, they can't turn it off. In the "MMS Message Setup", "Server Info", I dont see any other options other than MMS and no way to delete that entry. In the "MMS Message Setup" I see a "Download" option. It was set to "Automatic". If I set it to "Defer" will that defer the download of any text messages to my phone until I set that option back to "Automatic"? I've tried deleting a couple of digits off of the "Service Center Number" thinking that the phone wouldn't be able to contact the service center therefore not allowing the phone to download any messages. That didn't work.

I would do this. Create a blank MMS profile and set it to default. THat way you can enable it when you want to use it.

    Jay,

Are the Cingular RAZR's different than the t-moile's. I don't see where to create a new MMS profile. I know there is subtle differences between the two carriers regarding the options on the menu when it comes to the RAZR.

The Cingular and TMO V3's are identical in their hardware, just the software is different. Go to Settings/Web Access/Web Sessions and rename the MMS profile, so hopefully the phone won't find it. That should disable it.
