Noticed a small but annoying thing about the outside display.

It *sometimes* (but not always) displays the date twice (after the day, on the same line). Everytime I looked at it in the past couple of weeks, until just about 5 minutes ago it was doing that. It's not doing it for the moment, but not sure what makes it decide to do that little bit of weirdness.

So, anyone know how to make it quit doing that? The day/date are great, but I really don't need the date printed twice in a row. Seems repetitively redundant ;)

    Thanks,
    Brian

I've never heard of a V3 doing this but it may help to know what model V3, what carrier you have, and how old the phone is.

Well, I didn't know there were different versions of it. How do I find out? Alltel is the carrier. Not sure how old it is exactly since it's a previously used phone.

Interestingly, the problem has not happened again since I posted this message. It's never gone that long without happening! :)

If you have Alltel then its a CDMA model, probably a V3m. It should say on the label under the battery. Unfortunately since I have AT&T I have never worked on a CDMA model. The software on the CDMA models is different than on the GSM models.

Ah, OK. It's a V3c. Is that good or bad? :)

    Thanks,
    Brian

Alltel phones are easier to work with than Verizon or Sprint, but as I said earlier I do not use CDMA service and have no real experience working with those phones.

Have you done any hacks to your phone? If not it sounds like a defective phone.

I have a VZW v3c myself flashed to the Alltel firmware so I'm more or less running the same thing as you and I've never seen or had that happen in the 2+ years I've owned it. I realize it's out of warranty but I'd call Alltel and tell them what's up and ask what the problem could be. If they say anything about it being a software glitch you could always reflash it yourself being all the Alltel v3c flashes have been leaked ages ago.

I haven't done any hacks and don't think the previous user of the phone did either. I'll ask Alltel next time I go past one of their places.

    Thanks!

Ok, its a CDMA thing. This explains why I haven't heard of it.

The really weird thing is that it suddenly went away on it's own now... Does the firmware update through the network automatically? If so, it should have done it a long time ago anyways I'd imagine!

Perhaps it only does it in early January? :)

Got anymore details on that little bug? I'm curious about why it suddenly quit doing that one day (not that I'm complaining!) :)

I've never heard of an OTA firmware update. That usually has to be done with a cable.

^^^^Correct, at this time they are not doing firmware update OTA. Some of the CDMA carriers are working on it tho. I have the function listed in the firmware of my VZW Maxx Ve but if you click it, you get a msg saying function not active. Only way to update it is by cable doing it yourself at home or taking it to the store and having them do it.
