LG Fuel (Android) TracFone => Verizon. Ranger pretends to be a 611 forwarding system. However, in this area (others?) it grabs a connection attempt (to any number, not just a 611), requests the number for the cell phone, then disconnects with a message to the effect that your carrier does not subscribe to its service. It seems to me that this should be a violation of FCC rules, no? Any clues as to how to defeat this? Googling Ranger does not yield any contact info.
It is a (recorded, of course) voice message. Subsequent to my post, I did find Ranger on the web: http://www.rangerwireless.com/, and one reference in the archive., from 2006.
I heard of this eons ago. Stumbled upon it on my deactivated Verizon phone. At the time, it would prompt you for a phone number so you can make a collect call. My memory is vague, but dialing 611 from a Verizon phone, deactivated or not, would get Verizon CS. To the OP? Does Tracfone allow customers to call 611 to reach customer service? Only thing I can think of is that Tracfone account isn't properly activated. I heard of deactivated phones with the hijack, but not active ones. Sent from my SM-N910V
I was able to access their website and their direct contact information is on there. Poked around to see which carriers are on Ranger's supported list... Large and small wireless companies but no MVNOS, like Tracfone. http://www.rangerwireless.com/Participating-Carriers Looks like you will have to contact Tracfone from another phone to get assistance.
