I'm thinking of upgrading to the T720 but after seeing a lot of people post on here about how bad it is, I'm having second thoughts. I guess I'll be able to make a better decision if I ask some questions. I hear the battery life is bad, however will it last a full 12 hour day if I mainly keep it shut and talk for maybe 30 minutes during the day? I've also heard it is buggy. Is .19c still buggy, and if so, what are the major bugs? How is the reception? My StarTac usually only has one or two bars in my house, however the voice quality is still good and dropped calls are rare. What is the voice quality like? Do people sound clear? Do you sound clear to others? Thanks in advance!
Today marks 14 days since purchasing the T720 from Verizon. After 7 days, they exchanged the original phone w/ software ver. 17p for a new one w/ ver. 19c. I was not happy with the earpiece volume, occasional background noise, or the slowness in scrolling through the phone book (approx 120 entries). With the ver 19c phone I no longer have the background noise and the earpiece volume is greatly improved. I can't see any improvement in scroll speed though. I know nothing about any major bugs with the phone as I simply haven't experienced any. I use all aspects of the phone's current features. Makes me wonder if people on this forum like to complain and exxagerate a little. My experience with the standard battery is that while quite limited compared to what I was used to, it should easily provide more then twice the performance you described. I now have the extended battery and it lasts longer than my previous V60i ( I'm a heavy user). I never had a StarTac, but my phone is very clear at one or two bars, which has been rare anyway since reception has been very good for me in N. Illinois. No one I have talked to on thephone has reported anything but crystal clear quality. Those I call sound loud and clear from the "sweet spot" on the ear piece. I did receive one very muffled call last week from someone using a V60c. Was it his phone or mine, I don't know. Hope this info helps you in your decision. BTW, I am keeping my T720!
I too went through the scenario of 17p to19c. With the 19c phone: Your battery life will easily meet and exceed your specifications. There are no bugs that I am aware of. There are some features that we all would like such as being able to download pictures to our phone for wallpaper and being able to download ringtones from sources other than modtones. I get better reception with my T720 than I did with my StarTac 7868W Voice quality is fine. I am sure that there is someone out there that will disagree with me, but that is the nature of the forum. I am well pleased with my phone. Especially since the price just dropped to $249 before rebate and Verizon gave me back $50.
I have had the T720 since day -3 (that is three days before the original release date.) Verizon replaced my phone last week with a new T720 with the 19c software. The 19c software seems to fix the problems I was having: phone freezing with steady ring when answering a call; low earpiece volume. I moved up from a V60c, and I'm very happy I did.
I purchased (2) T720's a week after they were released. I experienced a few of the bugs you might have heard about, but only once or twice. Verizon replaced both of my phones with 19c software. I have not experienced any problems with these phones with the new software. The standard battery would last me two to three days with the useage you describe, and not turning it off between calls. I recently purchased (2) extra capacity batteries and am absolutely pleased with the talk time/standby time this battery allows. At the same time I purchased the extended batteries, I purchased the desktop charger (Blue one with the clock on the front). It has a slot in the rear for charging extra batteries. It was also a good addition to the two phones and with the extra batteries we have. If you buy the desktop charger, be sure you get the one that is for the T720, as it has plastic spacer adapters that allow you to slip the phone onto it and the batteries into the slot very easily. I ordered two installed hands free kits from motorola on Thursday, they ought to be here sometime this week. I am looking forward to the kits installed in my vehicles. I am very pleased with the phone, as is my wife! Chip
I just ordered this phone. I got mine brand new on Ebay. Now when you guys talk about Verizon giving you 19C Do they just load software into your old phone or give you an entirely new phone? I'm hoping the one I got has 19c and not 17..Because since I did not buy it from their store I'm afraid they won't swap it for me
Must admit the first software update took care of the interface response and added get pix in brew. Funny thing is...the get pix would not allow you to set the pictures onto the wallpaper even after you pay for the service...seem a long way to go to fix these bugs. In my mind the interface still needs work on, dont know why Verizon released the phone if they have known this would occur. Note I visited the Verizon Store in East Brunswick...these techs sure know how to play stupid with the customers. Hey I dont mind swapping the phone every month as long they are able to transfer my phonebook
For the people who have firmware version S/W 19c T720 I noticed there is a glitch with the display. For some odd reason the display will get dark... so dark I have to set the contrast level to 1 instead of 3...play with it even more I set the contrast back to level 3 and the screen is gets even darker...once again another glitch...feels like this is a beta phone...Hey Verizon you should give these phones (free if course) out to real cell users!!! You need a beta phone program!
the 720 is not as bad as people say..I've never had a problem with it. the battery life lasts me all day. I'm a casual user (3-5 calls per days, and i also use wireless web). I haven't had a glitch yet. The screen and features are awesome. Reception is good, voice quality for the person you are calling to can echo a bit, but you can hear people fine. haven't used th earpiece yet, so im not sure about the volume. more upgrades will be on the way, so if you like the phone, get it!
IMO, the T720 is a great phone. Great voice quality, great features, great looks. The battery will last you about two days if you're a casual user. I've had this phone since day one. The original software was slow, but I didn't have to deal with the bugs that a lot of people are complaining about. The new software is much faster and pretty much satisfies my needs of a phone. One thing: the earpiece isn't the loudest, so you may have problems hearing the phone on a busy street if you're hard of hearing. Now, where's that lunatic that comes onto the forum putting "it's a piece of crap" all over the T720 threads???
I notice Motorola no longer lists the 720 on their website. Is this a sign that the phone is already discontinued?
The phone is at the following URL: http://commerce.motorola.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/CategoryDisplay They still sell the phone and they support it with accessories. Chip
You're right...no sign of it at all http://commerce.motorola.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/CategoryDisplay Jeeeeesh!
Nope, no listing when I look. http://partner.getconnected.com/motorola/V_Catalog/WirelessPhones/index.asp No 720 on this list.
That's strange, I list the phones from Motorola's site by carrier, I select verison and there's the T720 for sale by Motorla. The link next to the T720 is as follows: http://commerce.motorola.com/cgi-bi...49143&search_string=28&cgmenbr=126&cgrfnbr=22 It gets me to the motorola T720. And when I called Motorola on Thursday, they were supporting the phone. Chip
Well, lets see. My phone has 19c formware and: - The battery lasts about 3 days with light talking - 19c firmware is what I have and I have not had any problems - The reception and sound is better than the startac I had before All in all I am vey happy with the phone...
I am the original poster and I just wanted to say thanks to all who took the time to answer my questions. I think I am going to buy the T720. I'll wait a few weeks and hopefully I'll get the .19D software. I really can't lose because my StarTac is eligible for the "New Every Two" $100 discount which would bring it down to $149, then I'm going to send Motorola my old Qualcomm phone for their $100 rebate making the phone cost $49 after rebates. Really can't beat that for a T720! Thanks again!
